Rusty trailer...

Media blast it and powder coat the whole trailer… it’s one thing I’ve learned Salt Water eats everything…

If both parts are aluminum? Would it be an easier fix to purchase a small piece of aluminum "L" bracket and weld for reinforcement. Not sure what needs to be accomplished, just guessing.

It's actually a galvanized bolt that fits into the t-slot aluminum. The head has broken thru the t-slot, so I don't think it can be fixed. I'll take it apart and look it over before spending any money, but I'm not optimistic that there will be a fix, as it's all very specialized parts...

I have an AI. That’s a nice setup and an unbeatable price. My Trailex trailers was expensive, and I’m disappointed that it didn’t hold up better—I would not buy it again. I do like the idea of an aluminum trailer, and I think I’ll try to build my own…

I came up with a work-around. The first picture shows the aluminum piece that should probably be replaced. Instead, I flipped it over and drilled a new hole in the triangular plate that holds it in place (next 2 pictures). The new hole is far enough away from the edge to miss the chewed up end. The fourth picture shows the triangular plate after it was installed. The last picture shows another aluminum piece that probably should be replaced. I'm surprised at how poorly these have held up. Anyways, I think it's still safe, as I'm nowhere near the weight limit, but still...

Tomorrow I'll repack/grease the bearings and put it back together and post a couple of pictures.

Sure looks like a good fix to me.  I'm about to redo the lights and service mine today, if it stop raining.  Want to build a PVC arch/rod holders to guide the main sheet and keep it off the rods.

Thanks. I don't need a mast stand, but it looks like it uses the same square tubing as the main tongue section, and that could be useful. And, it's a great price (new, it's over $300 plus tax and shipping).

Speaking of the trailer, I thought I had it all reassembled and ready to go today, only to discover that the amas interfere with the fenders, due to the bigger wheels. So, I'm going probably get rid of the PVC bunks and use some Hobie cradles that I inherited, as that should make it easy to raise it up a couple of inches. Kinda annoying that this is taking so long, but should be nice when done...

Finally, it's done! I ended up raising the PVC bunks 2 inches, which was a lot harder than it sounds. In fact, this whole project was a lot harder than it should have been. I must be losing my DIY mojo...

One last question for the boat trailer guys.

Are "bearing buddies" worth it? I tried to really pack the grease in, but I suspect that on one side, I didn't do a great job of it. It seems like bearing buddies are not too pricey, and would certainly make that part of the job a lot easier and less error-prone...

Also having a spare hub assembly ready to go would be helpful... when you need it

Bearing buddies are great. Just put enough marine grease to were the spring just start to move out. Otherwise  if you put too much with the spring fully compressed you run the risk of blowing the grease out the rear hub gasket. Then things get messy.
