Wilderness Systems / Radar 135 rudder install
« on: May 04, 2019, 09:44:44 PM »
Since I am not using the pedal drive I am installing a standard foot controlled rudder. The instructions are generic and not very helpful. The video I watched was for installing a rudder with the hand control lever. It showed a short bungee with a square at one end to put a handle screw through for installation. My rudder kit has the short bungee but no way to attach it to the screw in the rear handle and no instructions either. Anyone have a clue on how the rudder keeper bungee is installed?

Fishing Tournaments and Events / Simply Fishing Group Camp Reservation
« on: April 20, 2019, 09:46:15 PM »
Simply Fishing has been announced so it's time to reserve our group site again. I am going to cap it at 15 vehicles like last year. We need a minimum of 10 vehicles paid for Friday and Saturday night to reserve the site. Ocean Cove Campground does not take reservations for individual camp sites. Some of the years in the past the campground filled up making it difficult for people that arrive late Friday night. We do a quiet, low key camp for people who are not looking to hang out with the rowdy crowd. If you want to reserve a spot just PayPal me the $56 fee for two nights and I will reserve the group site on my credit card once we have the minimum of 10. Once I reserve the site I can only refund money if someone takes over your spot. Send me a PM if you want in.

I forgot to ask to include your screen name in the PayPal note section. Thanks.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Transporting new kayak hull designs
« on: February 20, 2019, 01:35:13 PM »
I have a Wilderness Radar 135 and I'm thinking about how I want to transport it in my truck and with a cart. The shape of the hull is different than my Tarpon 120. I saw a cart online that has two parallel pipes oriented bow to stern that looks like it would support the new hull shape. I would prefer to avoid buying another cart though. I haven't looked to see what kind of car racks are being made yet. What are you using, either new or modifying existing gear?

The ocean forecast looks pretty rough this weekend and the sturgeon bite looks good. Everywhere I looked in the sturgeon zone had 2-3 mph wind forecast. Can we get a hookup?  :smt007 :smt006

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Waterproof Lithium Battery
« on: December 09, 2018, 07:10:06 AM »
I came across a review for this waterproof kayak battery. It lasted the guy 16-17 hours over three trips, using a 7 inch color FF on full brightness. It’s a lithium battery so it’s super light but not super cheap. It looks to be designed specially for kayaking. They also sell accessories like Hobie hatch battery holders and wiring harnesses to use in parallel or to cigarette lighter etc.

Wilderness Systems / Radar 135 as a paddle yak
« on: December 01, 2018, 03:09:23 PM »
I just ordered a Radar 135 in a paddle configuration. That means a foot controlled rudder and no peddles. I want to get a kayak with a lawn chair seat and Wilderness has always had the best seats. I like that I can upgrade to the dark side and get a peddle drive for it or even get an electric motor. The hull is designed to be super stable and work well with either propulsion system. It should be rigged and ready to go with plenty of time to take it to gimme shelter in May. I can’t wait.

I was buying some jigs but I’ve lost contact with him. He hasn’t been on the forum in over a month and hasn’t respond to messages. I don’t know if he has a job that takes him offline for long periods of time or if something happened. Has anyone had contact with him recently?

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / HMB 11/17 Report
« on: November 18, 2018, 05:49:08 PM »
After the slow day and perfect conditions last week I wanted to try again. I got a late start after setting my alarm but not turning it on. I was otw about 8:45, at least the boat traffic wasn’t as heavy going out the jaws. There was more swell today, but very light wind and great conditions all in all. Crabbing was still slow but half the pulls had one keeper. Last week I got 4 jumbo males. This week I got 8 males, one jumbo and 7 barely keepers. I was hoping for a limit but the last two were a 16th under. I figured I wanted to be in before it even started to get dark so I headed in around 3:00. It was a good day.
