I bought a second-hand Shimano Ocea Jigger 1500HG on ebay last year (shipped from Japan) -- awesome reel! Well, at least the few times I got to use it and then a couple of weeks ago it crapped out on me on my first drop of the day. Argh. Took it apart and didn't find anything obvious and put it back together and it's still not right -- very rough and jerky on the wind.

Shipped it off to the Shimano service center in Southern California and they shipped it right back, untouched, with a note saying they don't service foreign market reels.

Advice?

Thanks,

James

Call that Delaware Valley Tackle reel repair guy.  DVT for short.

He has fixed reels other guys left medium-feeling w respect to smoothness.  I asked him once and he told me he can handle JDM reels.  Shimano and Daiwa.

Looks like a great place, thanks! I'll try them tomorrow after the holiday.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

A Steelhead always knows where he is going, but a Man seldom does.

Got this message recently from Alan that he's transferred his business to Ken.  See attachment.

I've had good service from Larry's Reel repair in Vacaville.  Email him to check his availability.  Usually one week turn around.  He has worked on 8 of my reels over the past two years.  Service and repairs.  Very reasonable rates.

No, I believe that message is not from Alan Tani, but from his great friend Bryan Young.

Thanks for the heads up on foreign made, I have shimano gear and they have always been great with service or replacement and even credit when unrepairable. Good luck, it seems harder to find qualified repair service in these modern times, R.

Thanks for this -- I'm sending him an Okuma Cold Water that's been acting up, with the Shimano JDM going to Delaware Valley Tackle.

This is correct.  Bryan is very ill, but Alan is still working on reels.  He is highly recommended.

Thanks for clarity this guys.  I stand corrected and apologize for misread the email's title from Bryan.
