Gearing Up and Rigging Up / wetsuit or drysuit or something else?
« on: September 19, 2011, 04:34:09 PM »
Okay, the t13 is coming along and should be on the water by next week. I've worn my 3mm wetsuit going out in the past but couldn't control the body heat paddling. sometimes, to the point where, i just dive in to cool my self down. This works for a little bit but who wants to stay wet. What you guys recommend is the ideal clothing for going out in the Big Blue?

Okay, I'm looking for a fishfinder that doesn't go dark or cannot read when I wear my polarized sunglasses. Any recommendations? It seems like every fishfinder that I've come across, when I look at the LCD screen with the glasses, it's barely readable or black. Is this something I have to deal with or do you guys know of a fishfinder that I can read without having to turn my head 90 degrees. Once again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

General Fishing Tips / ARW best tide?
« on: June 15, 2010, 12:28:06 PM »
I was wondering at what part of tide is best for fishing the ARW. Last several times I've been out was on a incoming time but not even a scratch bait. Also, what bait do you recommend. I was using live chovies but they were very small. maybe next time, I'll bring some frozen dines as backup.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Hawg trough
« on: May 26, 2010, 03:05:27 PM »
I finally picked up the Hawg Trough. I came all white so I took a sharpie and marked up the numbers and markers. I'm also bad at remembering things so I wrote the min size on the trough along with the limit allowed. :smt001

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything because I don’t get to fish much. Freezer needed to be filled and wife said GO GO GO for the rockfish opener. Left San Jose by 5:30 picked up my brother and a friend in Santa Cruz and on the water by 8. First time ever to Stillwater South and I must admit, that is a beautiful place. Water looked aqua-marine like some place in the tropics. I see about 20 yaks on the other side of the island so we decided to join in. Short easy paddle around the island and time to drop line. I used a light 1oz. glow in the dark scampi and my first drop at 50’ goes tap, tap, WHAM.  A 26” ling for my first fish. What a way to start the year. Second fish is an 18” Cabazon and I’m thinking this place is Heaven. Nice mix of rockfish and two more short lings released. Overall, I ended up 8 and I still had the same 1oz scampi on. Cool, no lost tackle. The wind was picking up so we decide to paddle in but before I came in, I gut, gilled and scaled the fish on the water using the paddle for support to clean the fish. Not limits but enough for dinner and fresh fish for the freezer. Wife loved the fish and what was better was I didn’t make a mess at the house, cleaning fish. The best question ever, “When are you going again?”
I need to thank porky for the intel. The parking was smaller and narrower than I expected. Not a place for a full sized crew cab truck.

I've been reading lot about Stillwater South and was wondering what the access is like. SWS being in Pebble Beach, do I pay to get in? Where can I park my truck and offload the yak? I see that there is a big lot next to the building on Google Earth. Is it okay to park there? Thinking about fishing the place for the RF opener. Any answers will mu much appreciated.

General Fishing Tips / escape rings for Promar traps?
« on: November 19, 2009, 06:26:08 PM »
On the Promar traps, is it necessary to install the escape rings? I just pick one up at Hi's Tackle and they told me I didn't have to because the trap was made of nylon. Is this true?

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / HMB 9/27
« on: September 29, 2008, 11:49:08 AM »
Sorry for the late post.
Well, On Saturday, I finally got out and fished on my kayak for the first time at HMB. Launched at the beach near Mavericks and fished towards the green can. Caught some kingfish for ling bait but none to be had. Picked up the vermilion and the the motor boats started to crowd in. I paddled down towards the mouth of the harbor and caught a brown. Called it a day and enjoyed a nice paddle in.
For a first timer, I had great time. I can't wait to go out again.
FindThatFish, thanks for the invite to Bean Hollow for Saturday. I'll have to check to see if my work schedule will allow me. If I can, I'll let you know.
Tight lines,
Jack kwonsoo Kim
