General Fishing Tips / Getting live bait around Alameda
« on: May 01, 2017, 06:32:32 PM »
Would be easier to pick up livebait on the way to Alameda or would be easier just to catch whatever bait around the ARW? Is there anything to catch for halibut bait other than jack smelt? Anybody have any tips on how to keep bait alive once I've caught some?

General Fishing Tips / halibut fishing during negative tide
« on: April 24, 2017, 07:34:38 PM »
I have weds off and was thinking of heading out for halibut, is it going to be worth it with the negative tides this week? I know it's going to muddy up the water. Just trying to figure out my best bet, either halibut at oyster or trout at shadow cliffs?

Craftsmen's Corner / Seat conversion for revo 13
« on: January 17, 2017, 10:56:10 PM »
I've seen a bunch of conversions for people who added jackson elite seat to there hobie outbacks, and it looks way more comfortable than my old style seat. I've been thinking of buying a newer hobie kayak for the new vantage type seating, until I did some research and seen the jackson seat add. All the pictures and videos I saw were for Outbacks and not revolutions. I've upgraded my seat cushion to the hobie air cushion and it helps with my back pain, but still after 5 hours of trolling my back tightens up. What do you guys think of upgrading the seat? It seems like a good fix for an outback, but what should I do for my revolution? Do you think it will work? Or is it time to buy a new kayak? I love my kayak but hate the seat!! I'm going to go to ISE show this weekend to check out the new chairs and maybe persuade the wife to let me buy another kayak. It looks like it might help with my back issues instead of buying a new kayak, looking for every bodies feedback thanks!!

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / help with downrigger weights
« on: December 18, 2016, 11:18:56 AM »
So I have a scotty lake troller attached to my revo13. Was wondering what type of weights should I use for my downrigger, I used a 2 pound ball with on a recent fishing trip, but it seemed like I wasn't getting the same action as the local boats. The boats seemed to be using 4 pound downrigger weights in the shape of fish. Do these weights make a difference in drag? The smallest weights i've seen like this is close to 4 pounds. Is that a little for my kayak? Also anybody know what a good distance I should let my lure out before I clip it to the down rigger?
Still new to this whole down rigger thing. Thanks

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / hobie livewell upgrades
« on: June 27, 2016, 05:40:03 PM »
I came across this clip on YouTube.

I went a head and bought a flow rite qwik lock power stream aerator, thinking if I bought some pvc fittings I could get my livewell to look like the guys in the video. Sadly I was wrong, anybody have any idea how he is getting his flow rite aerator to pump out such good flow? It only seems like my pump sucks in water only when I'm moving. Anybody have any ideas how to get my livewell to get air like the livewell in the video?

General Fishing Tips / bait shops that sell live shiners?
« on: May 17, 2016, 10:49:18 PM »
Anybody know of any bait shops that sell live shiners? Would love to pick up live bait and then take off to go drift. Any spots on the peninsula or near alameda? seems like bait shops are few and far now especially ones that have live shiners.

Finally got a chance to take my kayak out for her maiden voyage to Stevens creek try and do some self rescue and some bass fishing while testing out the yak. I found it really hard to bass fish from a kayak, but but I never fished Stevens creek before and it was a challenge. Anybody have any tips of Stevens creek?

Safety First / Chest high waders or wading pants + jacket
« on: April 28, 2016, 11:12:47 PM »
So i've  been researching on the forum whether to kayak in my chest high waders or buy some wading pants. I'm afraid of when wearing my chest high waders how uncomfortable it would be to use the restroom. I was told that nothing more comfortable than kayak fishing in waders. I was thinking about buying some wading pants and pairing it with my simms prodry jacket. I wish I could afford a kokatat drysuit but maybe somewhere down the line. Are there any chest high waders with a relief zipper? I'm going to take my kayak out this weekend possibly to lexington for the first time to practice some self rescue and just get used to my kayak. What do you guys think?
