For Sale / Roll catch cooler 32 (kill bag) sold
« on: July 18, 2020, 08:53:45 PM »
Selling a pretty new drybag style kill bag with an insulated insert. Took out once. In pristine condition.  The one time I tried to use it, I had it in the stern of my revo. I realized then, because of the limited movement i have in the revo, that a different bag would be better for me. This bag is better as a bow hatch bag.  Here it is on amazon:

General Talk / Kayak storage
« on: September 07, 2019, 01:13:25 PM »
I've been in touch with a guy who is building out non motorized boat storage at ARW. I just checked out his build out today and his plans seem pretty legit.  Pricing will be between $25-35/mo depending on your lease terms and needs.  Please reply if you have any interest so I can let him know if there's interest within the ncka community.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Drysuit or wetsuit, what's your go to?
« on: August 20, 2019, 07:13:19 PM »
So, I was in the market to buy some new fishing waders when i came across the kokatat whirlpool bibs which could be paired with a dry top to make a pretty decent dry system. I thought, two birds one stone! Fortunately, I found a deal and got it for 15% off its pretty pricey tag. I followed the purchase up with a stohlquist dry top (which almost suffocated me while i was trying it on... note to self: never try on drytops alone.) So for about $800, i got myself a pretty decent dry system situation.  But then i tried on a farmer john wetsuit. So much more comfortable, so much so i bought one because it was also so cheap.  I haven't even christened my kokatat waders since it's been so warm that fly fishing has been completely comfortable in shorts.
I feel like i may have jumped the gun on the drysuit, seeing that I feel more comfortable with the wetsuit.   I'll still have use for the whirlpool bibs as waders, but i feel i may have not needed the drytop after all. Anyone prefer drysuits in spite of the discomfort of the gaskets?

Introductions / Finally!
« on: July 17, 2019, 08:34:35 PM »
After years of hemming and hawing, i finally picked up the kayak of my dreams.  Last year. I demoed the pa 12 and 14 at cck. Really bummed me out how heavy it felt and how much it dragged in the water. Needless to say, i was dissuaded from getting a kayak. Fast forward some months later, my buddy asked me to go with him to demo some kayaks at headwaters out in Lodi where he picked up a Native Slayer.  After demoing those kayaks and talking to Dan and Matt, my interest was suddenly renewed. Then the release of the new outback. A somewhat lighter version of the pa? Im in. Armed with my renewed enthusiasm and the internet, i began my research. Luckily, i was on paternity leave so while my baby slept in my arms, i watched kayak video after kayak video (looking at you moo moo and tla). After scouring all the forums, youtube videos and product reviews i finally decided to demo a few more hobies at cck.  Surprisingly, i ended up preferring the revo over the outback. It was fast, stable and maneuvered well during a day in which 20mph winds were producing some crazy chop... and most importantly for me, it was light! I couldnt imagine myself, all of 5'4" trying to car top that outback.
Im really thankful for all the contributors to this forum as well as all those people going out with their gopros and filming themselves fish and doling out opinions and advice.  It helped guide my decision making process a ton.  Hopefully, i can pay it forward to someone someday.
So ya. Im stoked to finally be able to get on the water and fish.... now to find the time.
Hope to see you guys out on the water someday!

Hey All! Thanks for the add. East bay resident here looking to get all my ducks in a row before I make the plunge and get the hobie of my dreams. Kayak storage is still an issue for me so I was hoping to get some suggestions or dig up some helpful info within all the posts. Looking forward to gleaning all the wisdom from these threads. Thanks!
