General Talk / Looks like I will be saying happy trails
« on: October 27, 2016, 07:14:22 AM »
It is looking like I will be saying so long to cali and moving to Fla. It's been a challenging last few months. Lack of a good paying job and the fact we have a daughter in Fla. going through cancer treatment, has motivated me to take a job there. My wife and I figure we can be more help to our daughter in being a few hours away rather than on the other side of the country if things go south for her. The job may not be my first choice in what it is going to take to do but the company seems willing to help us with moving so, I guess I will give it my best shot.
I don't know anything about when we may leave and all as things are still being worked out. I should know a little more this afternoon after hopefully the last negotiation call today :smt044
I'm not big on long good-byes and all that so I'll just say Thanks for the friendships and the fun. I'll try to hook up with yall if I make it back this way and I'll let you know how the fishing is in south Fla.
Thanks for the memories! Happy trails and tight lines.

For Sale / Classic Mopar 69
« on: October 27, 2016, 06:52:06 AM »
I'm in need of selling my classic 69 Ply. Satellite I was hanging onto to fix up for my granddaughter. I have it listed for 8000.00, I would really like to get 5k out of it to help us with the upcoming move to Fla. I would rather see it go to a NCKA brother than someone I have no connection to. My father in-law bought this new off the lot. It's been in the family and needs some work but has the makings of a nice mussel car. Let me know if you have questions and are interested in it.
Thanks.

General Talk / Saying Goodbye for awhile
« on: February 10, 2016, 09:16:36 AM »
Well my bags are packed. I'm ready to go. Just sitting here putting off all the yard work I need to finish before I go. I'm aleaving on a jet plane......... :smt044 Just wanted to say happy trails to yall for awhile. I'm heading out in the morning for Indonesia. It's going to be a very long day tomorrow. I'm leaving Monterey early in the morning and will arrive in Jakarta around midnight on Friday night/Saturday morning. I will be there for 4 weeks seeing the sights and hanging with an old friend who is on the mend from a bout with cancer.
I am sure I will have the chance to do some fishing while I'm there. I'll post some porn if it's available lol.
I'll be back the day before the perch derby so I'm sure even with jetlag I can put some pressure on a few of you with throw back dinks I usually catch  :smt003
Anyways yall be good while I'm gone and I'll try to post a few pics of the happenings on the islands of Indonesia while I'm there.

Happy trails and tight lines;

General Talk / Sad times for us here
« on: April 20, 2014, 08:03:53 AM »
It's not my intent to bring you all down with bad news but to everything there is a time and a season. After a few close calls this last year, my dad passed away this last week. I haven't had time to be on the board here much of late. When I have, it has been a breath of fresh air and a great escape from the tasks at hand. I will miss the get togethers coming up it looks like so have fun and I'll look forward to the reports! Please keep my family in your thoughts and prayers in the days ahead as I'm sure we will need them! Also remember all our vets for the service they have given cannot be repaid!

General Talk / Massive hammerhead shark landed on beach

Massive hammerhead shark landed on beach

Florida catch of 14-foot predator produces major adrenaline rush, especially during the cautious release (see video)

March 24, 2014 by Pete Thomas

How does a group of anglers release a 14-foot hammerhead shark after one of them reels the massive predator onto the beach?

Carefully, of course.

The accompanying video (a shortened version; click here for the full version) shows the catch, by Florida angler Viktor Hluben, and eventual release of an estimated 700-pound hammerhead that fought for more than a hour before it could be tail-roped and hauled ashore for video opportunities.

Hluben said via email that the shark was caught in the Atlantic Ocean off Florida, but did not list a precise location.

He’s part of Landshark Fishing, which specializes in nighttime fishing for large sharks. The group states at the beginning of the full version of the hammerhead video:

“Do not try this at home! … We do not condone or support the killing of any shark species. We are a group of big-game anglers with unconventioal methods and conservation at the heart of our practice.”

The full version (5:24) shows Hluben holding a custom rod and with a 14-0 Penn Senator reel designed for big game. The angler is grimacing, while answering questions, as the shark struggles mightily to resist being dragged toward the shore.

The Landshark Fishing Facebook page brims with posts about catches of large sharks known to roam the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico, so the group obviously possesses expertise in reeling them in and letting them go.

But as far as curious novice anglers are concerned, the Landshark’s words are worth heeding: Don’t try this at home.
