General Talk / Re: Alaska fisheries article
« on: March 05, 2023, 09:21:18 AM »
Nice post Clayman.  Let me add, regarding king salmon, that for years we lobbied Fish and Game to ban treble hooks with roe. We saw, so called sport fisherman and guides ripping the face of fish with treble hooks and releasing them ... to get a bigger trophy king.  It brought in the tourist, so nothing was done until it was too late.

Been going to Homer and Kenai Peninsula for past 20 years, and this is first year I'm considering not going.  Halibut and king salmon fisheries have been decimated.  Silver salmon have also declined.  But we've been getting record sockeye salmon runs the past two years.  Go figure.

Are the beaches north of Bodega, such as Salmon Creek beach, any good for crab snaring ??

CA Regulations / Re: Crab Hawk
« on: November 17, 2021, 03:32:38 PM »
Is there a definition of a "crab loop trap" in regulations ??  We know they are legal.  Only reference to this type of trap is  a single sentence on page 51 about a maximum of six loops.

Are Crab Hawk traps still illegal in CA ??  Wonder if regulations have changed.  Saw a lot of them sold and used at Bodega last week.

I got #72 to be next to WeimarLand.  Thanks for setting things in motion Victor.  I have a year to think up a donation for the raffle.

Was there last Sunday and was eaten alive by mosquitos.  Bring repellent.  Fishing was slow with just a couple of small bass.

9
Good info, thanks.  I didn't know about the NOAA site.  Bass fishing was good before the rain, so I was looking forward to getting back out there.

Went by the Cosumnes River Preserve last Saturday and found the walkway flooded.  River running high and muddy.  Generally speaking ... how long does it take for the river to get back down to normal levels ?  I know it depends the intensity and duration of rain, but is there a general rule ?

Other Kayaks / Re: Sevylor Coleman Colorado 2-Person Fishing Kayak

It was great for floating down the American River, just like a raft, and splashing around Lake Natoma for recreation fun.  But definitely not for trolling or fishing from.  Doesn't mean you can't.  It is sturdy and safe to be in.  I sold mine to a guy would was going to use it in the ocean for scuba diving.

I had a Colorado and a small fin came with the package that went on the bottom of boat.  I was more like paddling a raft.  Would not buy one again.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Doran Crabbing

I was at Doran jetty mid week and the crabbing was very slow.  Kayaks were getting them in 30 feet of water ... not a lot but some.  Maybe the rain will bring in some this weekend.

I am so lucky to have good neighbors on both sides of my 16 acres.  In your case, suggest you read the title report closely, and then bite the bullet and hire a surveyor/engineer that is familiar with property line issues in SantaCruz hills.  Yea, it is the crazy lady's burden to prove her claim, but you want to know the facts in advance.
