For Sale / FS: Abu RevoInshore Low Profile Reel
« on: December 08, 2020, 10:36:22 AM »
Hey there,

Looking to sell a brand new Abu Garcia RevoInshore fishing reel (RH retrieve). I got this as a gift but I already have two other inshores that I have been using for years and dont need a 3rd. I think its one of the best saltwater rated 200 size reels out there. No trades, I already have too much fishing gear! $200 OBO

Thanks,

Baron

Recipes / Re: Smoked Salmon Recipe help - too salty!
« on: June 14, 2020, 07:20:21 PM »
I follow the same recipe and steps for smoking my salmon as I do for sturgeon. Just did a batch yesterday and it was perfect! Skip to 4:20 for the brine/smoking portion of the video

I appreciate all the positive feedback! I struggle sometimes writing my reports and prefer to tell my story via video. I added my video to the initial report!

Thanks everyone! I’m so grateful that I was able to get that fish [emoji120]

6/9/20-
I woke up before my alarm from a mixture of stoke and anxiety for my first salmon attempt of the season. I made it to the parking lot at 6:30 along with a dozen surfers and a few kayak fishermen. Everyone was super friendly and welcoming. I got on the water with a fairly easy surf launch and I made my way straight out to 50 ft where I began the troll. The bait was scarce out at 50-60 ft but I stuck to my game plan and worked the area at 42 pulls on a DD6 with a KA. Soon a fellow NCKAer called me in on a hot bite off of Dux and I pedaled hard but I just missed the school of salmon. Bummer, but at least I know they are around and are BIG. Then I got stung in the temple by a damn yellow jacket which gave me a headache for the rest of the day along with a nice welt! I got three solid takedowns that never stuck and finally decided to call it quits. Landing was a bit sporty but manageable, I did see one yardsale but nothing was lost. I'll let a certain someone tell his story but I saw a 20lb salmon limit at the beach and decided I needed to give it another go the next day

6/10/20-
4:30AM- My alarm woke me up and I did NOT want to get up. I managed to pull myself out of bed and hit the road. I was still sleepy and almost blew a red light which woke me up real quick. As I pulled into the parking lot I didnt see any kayakers or boats, no one responded on the radio, my stomach was killing me but I knew there was a chance of chrome out there so I went for it. I lost my knife hopping in my boat but the surf launch was easy. I made my way to Dux reef when suddenly Marc and Sakana Seeker appear from the fog along with an entire fleet (30+) of power boaters in 45 ft of water. They call me in and as soon as I reached them I got a solid takedown. I got another 4 strikes but none stuck long enough to even feel the weight. Suddenly I get slammed and line starts peeling....yes, this is my chance! I fight the fish for a few minutes and finally get to see the beautiful chrome flash of a pissed off king salmon. The salmon goes upside down and busts out some heavy headshakes and boom.....its gone! I felt like that was my shot for the day, and I blew it but Marc reminded me that all it takes is one fish to change a day around. Boy was he right. Half an hour later we pass over a bait ball and Marc remarks this is the spot, sure enough....zipzipzzzzzzz, fish on! I usually get caught up in the choas of fighting a salmon but I was able to take a moment to really enjoy being hooked onto a big ass fish miles from shore in my kayak! After about 15 minutes I get him boatside and finally into the net! Success and my new personal best from kayak! I forgot how beautiful King Salmon are and I bled this fish with gratitude. As soon as I put the fish in my bag I realized theres blood everywhere and suddenly I get slammed on the bottom of my boat. Marc saw my face change from salmon bliss to shark terror in .0001 seconds haha. Fortunately it was just a pissed off sealion who was upset I got the chrome! I fished for another hour before heading in. Landing was uneventful and the locals were all friendly and stoked for my catch. Im super tired but grateful to be able to bring home this healthy hen full of roe.

I know people are wanting more current written reports so here ya go! Go gettum if you can!

General Talk / Re: "Secret" parking at Tomales
« on: May 29, 2020, 02:17:03 PM »
Question for the few of you I see parked frequently at a "secret" but visible location at Tomales-
Is that public land, or do you have permission from whoever owns the adjacent property (who I know personally)?
I can only speak for myself but the “secret” spot I’ve been launching from is private land.  I do know the owner and I spoke with him yesterday, no issues with him.

Places to Launch and Camp / Re: Paradise cove launches?
« on: May 24, 2020, 09:26:33 PM »
San Quentin beach is 3.5 linear miles one way to Paradise Pier.  Thats a lot of distance to travel and weather, wind, tides need to be considered.
The 1st picture attached is approximately half way in between.  Thats the prison straight ahead. You can fish the general area of your suggested launch spot but kayaking to Paradise Pier area is too far.
I find it really depends on the tide and how fast the current is moving. Last week I went from the pier to San Quentin and back, If you time the tides right it’s doable but everyone has a different limit/kayak/time/etc. But honestly it’s not really worth it, there’s a bunch of fish to be caught between San Quentin, paradise cay and the bridge. Hey y’all just got back from a long day on the water! Looks like I missed all the action on here though. Thanks to everyone who lol’d at my expense. [emoji23]

Thank you Crash for that regulation clarification. I’m also ethically against snagging but if the fish is going to die I would rather be able to take it than waste it’s life, just my perspective! [emoji2369]

Great stuff thanks for the report. Gotta love friends that can hook you up with a private launch.

Did both poles have swimbaits or was one soaking bait? I'm curious if the swimbait outperformed real bait.

Yeah one pole had either live shiners or frozen anchovies and the other was that swimbait. Got everything on the swimbait!

I thought you said strippers

I snagged a halibut and it wasnt very happy about it! It slapped me in the face and I almost lost my lucky hat! Fortunately I only lost a little pride. I hope you enjoy and thanks for watching!

General Talk / Re: Anyone Playing COD: Warzone?
« on: May 21, 2020, 02:23:01 PM »
I've got Warzone, but my recent addiction is Escape From Tarkov.. I may have been racking up >750 Hours on the game in the Pandemic... Lord.

It's way more frustrating and rage inducing than Warzone lol. I don't recommend it.  But it is Just so damn fun.

I'll look that one up. Warzone has helped save me from going crazy during lock-down.
Same here! Warzone helped me through the SIP haha

A 30" stripper sounds like something you might need when painting your house.
Haha you guys are too funny!
