Yeah, I was pretty surprised too.  I saw an even bigger one that was a follower when I was landing the small one.  It actually looked interested in eating the little guy as it was struggling to get loose!  This is all in about 2-3 feet of water.

I finally caught my first bass as Lake Natomas today.  Several bites from smaller ones, was able to land two.  The biggest was 3lb 2oz.  Got 'em in the Lagoon through the tunnel on the north end of the lake down at the damn end.  Fun afternoon....

I love that lake and it's only 15 minutes away.  I've bass fished it several times, but never caught anything.  I always enjoy the trip though, beautiful place!

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / What do you wear under your drysuit?
« on: January 28, 2009, 08:31:53 PM »
I just got the Kokatat angler paddle suit, so now I need the undergarment to go with it.  I was going to get a fleece one piece jump suit (or whatever you call them).  What's a good one?  Brands?  Types?  I'm still learning so don't be shy about explaining everything to me!  I don't plan on being out when the air temp it's much below 35-40.

Thanks!

Thanks.  Oh No, I know where it's coming from, that's why I picked you guys (one of the reasons - keep it in America whenever possible!)

I just didn't know how fast you would be able to supply - since it's so new....

That's great news, sounds like there's a good chance I'll have it in a week!  WooHoo!

I'm not in AOTY, but I have (currently) 4 different setups just for bass fishing alone

Since the angler shit is so new, can you give me an idea how long it might take for my special order to ship?  Will it take priority over, or be behind bulk product shipments to retailers?

Thanks

PS:  Just a heads up.... Some of the links on your website for the new angler suit will take you to the wrong product.  You have to hunt around a little to find the bad ones....

That is a nice product - can you dive in something like that?
Don't think so. I believe it's good to 20 feet, but for diving you really need a dry suit, this is just a paddling suit.  I don't know all the technical stuff on the differences.

Sweet.  That looks nice but it's a lot of beans.

I'm very new to the game...why go for a suit over the standard gear?  Just wondering if I should make this kind of investment up fornt.

It's a matter of personal choice.  You can do some searching and find discussions on wet vs dry suits, also 2 piece vs full suits.

I wanted to stay DRY and warm, and thought a suit would be more comfortable and have the best integrity.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Just ordered my Kokatat Angler Paddling Suit

T3 SuperNova Angler Paddling Suit
Placed a special order from California Kayak and Canoe.  600 bones + the governators fee.  Did anyone go to the sports show and see if Kokatat was represented?  I didn't, and I'm going to kick myself if I could have got a better deal!  Still, can't wait to get it so I get out fishing again on bad weather days....  :smt003

Hobie Kayaks / Re: Hobie rudder maintenance
« on: January 18, 2009, 09:06:41 PM »
Bryan,

I've had to tighten my steering lines a couple times.  Once when it was new and once since then.  Can't speak to the raising and lowering issue, I have not had to mess with that.  Just untie the lines at the rudder, center the steering lever and rudder, then snug up the lines and retie them.  When I say snug, I don't mean tighten the shit out of them, that will cause binding and you won't be able to raise and lower the rudder.  So as you retie, check the raising and lowering before you totally commit.

I had a great time on Saturday, thanks for the invite Brian and Kevin.  Even though I only caught one dink, and had one bigger follower (all the way to within arms length of the yak), I really enjoyed the company and time on the water.  You guys were killing 'em, especially for how hard the bite was!

Sorry for the late report, but I ended up going to Steamboat Slough instead, not much further away.  Launched at Hogback Island Access.  Peddled north up the Slough about 4 miles.  I should have gone south, maybe I would have had better luck - got skunked.  Didn't have much time for anything else, cuz is was getting dark at 4:30.  It was a nice trip though.  There was a bit of drizzle for the first hour or so, and stayed overcast all day.

Thanks guys!  I'm headed out now!

Anyone know a safe place to launch on Snodgrass slough?  Want to go there tomorrow, never been, and can't find a launch place on google.  Need some advice from someone with experience...

Thanks
