A coworker of mine was telling me that home Depot has some 26in plastic mag wheels with bearings that they sell.  I'm gonna go check these out next week.  He says each wheel has a 125lb rating.  I'm totally cool with what I have now, but it is always nice to check out what is out there.

Sweet deal! Now you need to find a kickstand to hold the cart in proper position for loading! I bet that thing rolls sweet on the hard pack.

Seabird was telling me something about some off brand wheeleez wheels from China, for the price difference, it may be worth it for the occasional rough portage.

I can't lie I just ordered a wheeleez, but man it hurt. I've been using my $10 diy PVC cart for over a year now and only ordered the wheels for the rougher portages, for pavement I imagine the PVC will still get the call!
This cart doesnt need a kickstand.  The reason why is it stands vertical nicely so when I pull the yak on it glides up and on in great position being my yak has a tunnel hull.
It cruises down the street pretty easily.  I balance it in the middle so I'm not lifting or pushing down.  So far it goes over everything pretty easily. As soon as I try some sand I will post my experience.

Well shoot,  if you ask you shall recieve.  I was fishing yesterday for sturgeon down at the Nantucket and I'll be damned.  I looked over and saw a roll of pink and blue off the tracks.  It was a bunch of closed cell foam to finish  my cart and rods for free.

So today when I got home I began My mega free cart upgrade.  I listened to my posters and minus the fat tire upgrade. Which will be in the Super Mega free cart  upgrade.  I went with strength and chain.  I figured the chain would hold my strap hooks better on hooking up and strapping down.

Here goes.

$700.00 Lincoln Navigator.

I take my cheapskate hat off and tip it in your general direction. Impressive intersection of cheap and not a tin can/rustbucket like my hoopties.

Not at all a rust bucket.  It had 121000 on the odometer.  Poor mechanic work got it to me cheeeap.  Thanks.

Nice work man!  I like how you mounted that 2nd RAM ball on the side of the Scotty mount to avoid drilling unnecessary holes.  You're going to love that unit.  The fish can't hide!   :smt003
Thanks for noticing.  I also have the backing plate on the Mount so it is super ridged.  Also worth mentioning is if you go this route and use the hobie ball in scotty mount. Don't drill the center hole out for the ball to fit flat to scotty mount.  If you mount the ball that low in the mount it will be loose.  Meaning your fish finder will be able to rotate left and right .  Instead of staying put.

Ah the first trip to the ER.  I remember mine with my first child.  It was a nice summer day and my kids decided they were gonna call me from the garage door.  "Daddy, daddy"   SLAM!!!!  Then complete chaos.  The door slammed on my 3yr olds fingers and popped 3 fingernails out of her quticals.  Completely horrorifying.  The messed up part is I was freaking out inside.  But, you can't show them that, you must remain calm.  Oh the memories.  There will be many.  I have three girls and the first child is most difficult.  After that you might forget things like booboos and every fake choke.  They are fun and easier the older they get.  Enjoy yours as I enjoy mine.

Hope the fishing is going well.  Don't worry the freak outs about your time will wane over time.

What makes the Wheelez carts so superior is the tire/wheel. You can buy those separately, not cheap but a great addition to a DIY cart.

Nice job there, love the recycle/reuse. I'd be a junkman in another life.
Thanks Dale.

It looks like the wheels are attached via a tapped end plate/washer. Good in the short term but potentially problematic with more gear and weight.
Potentially.  I built this thing using conduit.  Certainly not built for strength, built for the price.  I think I will gusset the uprights for more strength soon.  Should last a bit longer that way.  I have the wheels snuged up pretty tight so i'll use it till it breaks.  Thanks for all the looks.

Nice work. How are you attaching the bike wheels to the frame? Maybe  a close up shot of the connection?

I love my wheeleez and they have their place, but something like this is better for a hardpacked surface and a long haul -- much lower rolling resistance with the higher pressure bike tires and larger diameter wheels.

Cheers,
Brad
The photo with the end shaft is a washer weled to the conduit with a nut from the wheels welded in the washer.  Pretty simple.  Wheeleez if they are the ones that break down black and green in color.  That would not hold up to what I need to do to get to water.  Then I would be out hundred and some odd dollars.  Plus the wheels are to small.  If they are the balloon tires then those would be cool.  But I support a family of five on one income.  My old lady would kick my ass if I spent that much money on some balloon wheels.
