The difference between (a) jetski engaging only jet drive and (b) jet ski relying upon a trolling motor does not appear to turn on the position of the operator (the "on, astride or behind" part of the definition).

The jet drive versus trolling motor seems like its more relevant to the "propelled by machinery" clause.  Even still, I do not see how a trolling motor is not "machinery" whereas a jet drive assembly is "machinery."

In both trolling motor and jet drive, the movement of water for craft propulsion is actuated by a machine.

And whatever the ski is propelled by, the operator still sits atop it?
^^^^ I am thinking the same thing ^^^^

You're right... I wasn't separating the vessel definitions by the semi-colons.  That'll teach me to multi-task while interpreting laws.  I'm way out of practice, too!  Thanks for catching that and clearing it up!

Ok I’ll be the A-hole. So per the definition, where do motorized SOT kayaks fall? Are they PWCs, again per the definition of sitting “on” the craft?

If you guys will go-fund my bail and get tedski to be my expert defense witness, I'm game to take a ski out on some SWLT rcg run to test the waters so to speak  :smt002

I'd like to be on the defense team.  Sign me up.

Hence teh vague and overbroad criticism.

I found the alternatives!  But I think ultimately the Solo Skiff (or the Stealth one) is the better alternatives. And maybe even back to the AI.   All these rides are wet, no doubt.

Was also looking at alternatives this weekend.

Scout Inflatables.  space optimized, no trailer needed, can launch through surf.  Fractional cost of a ski

I’ve been looking at a lot of inflatables, but my paranoid side keeps freaking me out with the thought that I will be carrying a lot of sharp things when I fish.

I hear ya, but Navy SEALs operate on IBS's and RHIBs, so i'm not too worried.  Also, check out the testimonials for scout, oside kayak guy said he spined one of the chambers and he was still able to fish for 7 hours.  apparently the stuff's pretty durable and puncture resistant.  (didn't they say same about titanic lollz)

You could go through 3 Scout's for the price of one 1 C-Du Angler, cycling through a new boat every 5 yrs at even money.

That’s a cool design I don’t know about rough water though

I ran a zodiac “work boat” that for some reason was always full of salmon, seaworthy as hell and durable. If only I had someplace to put one now that would be my first pick

Would be interesting to see how that narrow inflatable design handles in rough conditions, suspect it would be challenging in steep swell and winds

Dude I have seen Ariel rocking the Stealth Solo Skiff for years. It might not be 170hp but it’s plenty fast!
I see that Sea Doo gave you a refund—thats pretty cool. Before I got to that post (reading thru 5pgs of replies), I was gonna say you should buy it then flip it…there’s a lot of demand for those right now. I know a guy who would buy it for sure haha…for central valley lakes, rivers, and delta. It kinda sucks that you can’t use one in the MB Nat’l Marine Sanctuary, except for a few small fishless, high-traffic zones. They cracked down on PWCs on the Monterey side about 12yrs ago when too many people were using them to tow-into Ghost trees…posting lots of videos on social media and drawing a lot of attention to a dangerous area forced the feds & other authorities to enforce the regs already on the books…hmmm sounds familiar.

Also, this link references the PWC vs paddle craft distinction.
