Don't worry, I believe in 10 years NWM will be producing his own 40LB carbon fiber kayak with his new Illusion Drive system that weighs only 1LB and can be 3-D Printed anywhere!  :smt044

Does he only fish clear water or small bodies of water?  Flashers are to draw fish in from far away or get them to notice your bait when visibility is low.  I do see the value in not using one, vs always using one.  But to say that you should never use one, is what I think is stupid

Grunion can be found from Tomales Bay, California to Bahia Magdalena, Baja California and are most abundant south of Point Conception.

Well, one at a time I guess it could still be fun  :smt005

Rick has the better idea, head down for the lobster opener and give both a try!  :smt003

Who might be interested in an old fashioned grunion run this year?  The first dates are in ~6 weeks so plenty of time to plan. We scored next to zero on our first attempt years ago  :smt005  Maybe find a spot down south where grunion are more abundant?  Reply if you are at all interested!

General Talk / Re: Red buoy Monterey?
« on: February 03, 2025, 10:36:55 AM »
What’s the thing about the red buoy? Just curious
It's been popularized in multiple Youtube channels for fishing for Squid.  For sanddabs I wouldn't fish there, but a few hundred feet from it to the right in deeper water, away from the reef that will likely get you an out of season rockfish at this time of year.

Thanks! Just curious, any sand dab spots you would recommend?
So you can literally catch dabs from 70ft to 300+ feet, and for whatever reason the shallower you go the smaller they are and the deeper you go, the larger they are. I like to fish for dabs in about 180ft+ and that depth is approximately in-line with the red buoy, but farther to the right.  Lets say if you were at the red buoy (look up the GPS coordinates) but you were say 1/2 mile to the right of it, it would be about where I like to start, but from there I like to go deeper.

It's so cool how it seamlessly lets you pan around and see from any direction.  I saw some recent videos of 360 on a kayak, and wow it's like your right there with the yaker!

I did a heimlich on a kid once that was choking on Easter candy. Was very thankful I knew what to do in that situation.

I'm interested in learning this stuff as well, as I've had lots of ideas over the years that if I knew how to 3d print a solution would have been much better than what I came up with.  :smt044 A crate lid and hinges would be awesome, as only yakattack sells something similar and for me it's too expensive. If I could make things that fit into a Scotty Mount, that would be pretty awesome too!

Great and entertaining report Joe  :smt005 Already been chomped dabs, priceless!  I have caught very few sharks, and am wondering if they are more active in the winter?

No, that's a big issue with the server and storage issues + cost issues.  But, I can help you easily and quickly re-size photos on your computer.

On my computer it’s a minor annoyance—on the water with my iPhone and wet fingers it’s a major annoyance.
Sorry, only idea that I have that comes to mind is use a screen shot of the pic, which is what I do to avoid resizing on the water.

Curious why they don't mention the crops being grown adjacent to the elkhorn slough...
