Kayak Fly Fishing / Fly Reel Recommendation
« on: July 14, 2018, 05:06:44 PM »
Can anyone recommend a $100 or less fly reel for a 5 weight quality rod for stream trout. Getting back into fly fishing after I was gifted a sweet 5 wt 9 foot Winston. Just want something middle quality but the choices are mind boggling. I fish mostly small overgrown streams. Thanks for any suggestions.

General Talk / Canine Medical Advice?
« on: March 16, 2015, 12:58:53 PM »
Any dog experts out there?. My pit mix has a weird foot infection on all 4 paws with blistering, puss, bleeding and swelling. Had her to the vet 4 times in 4 months. Tried antibiotics, creams, soaks, betadyne, socks, Epsom salts. The last round was steroids. The steroids helped immediately, but when they ran out it's back worse than ever. Poor girl's almost lame and she lives to run. I'm afraid it will overwhelm her immune system. Vets said they haven't seen it before. Just thought I'd ask if it's something anyone has dealt with, or maybe someone knows an effective home remedy. Getting ready to make another appointment. To make it worse, the Vet keeps charging me for office visits in addition to meds for the follow ups. Thanks for any advice.

General Talk / Sweet

Still on the kayak fishing road brothers. After 9 days at Albion, then to Tomales, then almost 3 weeks at the Cove, I have already fished with a bunch of the brotherhood. It has been an insane adventure involving lots of salmon, halibut, sharks, abalone, octopus and numerous other sea creatures and a crazy shark killer named Kiet. Writing from the back of my truck at Jonezs house. Havnt seen a bed in over a month. Squeezing the marrow out of the summer. I hear the bite is on at Bodega........... Remember to feed the homeless (and give them tray baits). Life is good. See you out there.

Fishing Tournaments and Events / Albion Side Bet
« on: July 15, 2014, 07:46:23 AM »
I will be collecting money for the Albion Side Bet this year, along with Tigerfish if he shows up. The bet is for the heaviest fish from the RCG Complex (Rockfish, Cabezon, or Greenling). The Side Bets are a 100% cash payout usually between $500 and $1,000 depending on participation. The winner will be paid at the tournament banquet. I will be in the campground Tuesday and will take bets anytime until I crash on Friday night. I will be in a white Tacoma with Utah plates with a brown Hobie Adventure. I will make a tour of all the camps on Friday taking bets, but only once.

- $10 Entry Fee

- The heaviest Rockfish, Cabezon or Greenling (RCG Complex )

- DOES NOT INCLUDE:   Ling Cod, Salmon, Halibut, Wolf Eels, Monkey Face Eels or anything else Period.

- Fish must be caught with hook and line and be officially weighed as part of the tournament.

- No bets placed after Friday night.

- 100% cash payout tournament day.

Good Luck,

Ed

Fishing Tournaments and Events / GS8 SIDE BET
« on: April 22, 2014, 10:53:25 AM »
Pending Eric's approval, I will be collecting money for the GS8 side bet again this year.

$10 entry fee.

The longest rockfish, cabezon or greenling (RCG Complex)

Does not include ling cod, salmon or halibut

Fish must be brought in to win (No Catch and Release Fish).

Fish must be officially measured as part of the tournament.

No bets placed after Friday night.

100% cash pay out tournament day

I will be in the campground in a Black GMC pickup at the Utah Compound near the yak wash area on Wednesday and will take bets until I crash on Friday night. I will make a tour of all the camps on Friday taking bets. Anyone on Team Squidbillys can take your bet. The group decided last year they want to see a dead fish to win, so please don't argue the merits of C&R fishing with me. Good luck Brothers and Sisters........  :yak

General Talk / Utah Wapiti
« on: September 22, 2013, 12:32:43 PM »
Polygamist Al came along on my elk hunt this week in the Book Cliffs, Utah. A cow call decided Bubba's future yesterday morning. He's a 6X5. They were rutting and he had about 20 cows with him. The last shot is of Alan expressing his joy over the thought of packing all that meat out of a deep, dark hole. Life is good. Wapiti tacos are on the Gimme Shelter menu in 2014. Later Brothers.............:smt003

Just like the Albion side bets.

$10 entry fee. The longest rockfish, cabezon or greenling (RCG Complex) - Does not include ling cod, salmon or halibut.

I will also take a $10 side bet for the longest ling cod, salmon or halibut separate from the RCG side bet if enough people are interested.

100% cash pay out tournament day. Fish must be officially measured as part of the tournament.

I will be in the campground in a White Tacoma on wednesday and will take bets until I crash on friday night. I will make a tour of all the camps on friday taking bets.  Anyone on Team Squidbillies can take your bet. No bets after friday night. Good luck Brothers and Sisters........ :smt006

Spent 3 days at Whawheep Marina at Lake Powell for work. Ditched meetings and hit the cliff near the dam with frozen anchovies. It was non stop every cast for stripers from 3 to 5 pounds. Life is good.

General Talk / More Mountain Lions
« on: February 04, 2013, 10:21:19 AM »
For those of you that had doubts about the multiple mountain lions from Washington in the other post. These lions are in Bear Lake, Utah. There were 7 cats togther. It is my understanding that these groups are likely one mother with her 2 years of multiple offspring. Cool.

I am going to upgrade my 06 Taco for a new one. Anyone have a suggestion for a car search engine to price my old one, and to search for a new one. Want my ducks in a row when I choose my dealer. Thanks for any help.
