General Fishing Tips / Fish mat/ cutting board
« on: June 25, 2022, 03:22:40 PM »
Ok, so I spent the morning cleaning halibut today and a few were too big for my cutting board, also had an issue with the fish sliding around on the board. What are you guys doing
 For breaking down bigger halibut.

I'm looking to chase some halibut this Saturday. Thinking berkeley or ARW... Anyone headed somewhere where I can join in?

3
I'm open to launching elsewhere, the tides are opposite of what I typically want to fish but it's the only chance I have for a few weeks. Hoping to have someone join in. Let me know.

4
So I'm just getting my kayak ready for the year and have a chance to get out. The weather looks good (haven't checked wind/swell yet). Is anyone else looking to get out on either kf those days? Let me know.

General Fishing Tips / Paddling pants vs. Wadding pants vs wetsuit?
« on: September 18, 2021, 11:24:30 AM »
Anyone have a preference on pants? I rarely beach launch as I'm running a tandem solo. Mostly want to keep dry/warm but thinking about launching from beaches up the coast makes me think wetsuit or wadding pants... the downside to wadding pants is if I end up in the drink could be very difficult to get back on the kayak.

I'm headed out to Santa cruz next week, anyone able to head out? After reworking my rigging and adding a livewell and sibiki I think my odds are much better. Still don't know the area super well, but I think I found the reefs.

General Fishing Tips / Navionics vs c-map
« on: August 20, 2021, 02:38:52 PM »
Does anyone have any real experience with either of these mapping products? I have a lowrance hook reveal and am looking for a mapping software product to help me quickly fund reefs while I'm out. Also open to other suggestions.

Anyone planning on being out in Santa cruz this week? I'm planning on fishing Monday- Wednesday, hoping to have someone else out there as there is saftey in numbers. Also any advice on area would be appreciated, it will be my first time in the area. Targeting halibut and rockfish unless I find evidence of salmon in the area. I will be on channel 69TIA

General Fishing Tips / Loop knot or uni/Palomar knot
« on: May 13, 2021, 10:43:27 AM »
When tying a stinger knot for halibut is a loop knot recommended or a hard knot such as a uni? It's been a long time since I used to tie these and can't recall.

General Fishing Tips / Anchor wizard to downrigger conversion??
« on: May 03, 2021, 10:24:41 PM »
Has anyone used an anchor wizard as a downrigger? It was just a random thought that came into my head today as I was considering getting a downrigger... if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it.

Introductions / New to kayak fishing, but not new to fishing the bay.
« on: September 17, 2020, 09:00:09 PM »
hey everyone, i just decided to take the plunge and get a kayak. I picked up a tandem feel free lure (tandem so I can take my kid out too) so far I've had it out a few times (santa cruz, Bodega,  and the napa river. I say a post about some guys coming up to fish the napa river next Saturday and would be interested in meeting up. Other than that, im hear to make connections, and share experiences. I am interested in hearing some recommendations on walkie-talkies, as I do take saftey pretty seriously.
