I got a rockfish and got to meet some of the original kayak fishing OGs!

Thanks Glen for putting this on and hooking me up with the hand line! It felt very intuitive to fish with even though I only had the one bite.

Shucks we'll see you there!

So I have I a question, I know this is a casual event but Glen is it acceptable to catch bait from the kayak with a conventional rod and reel and then transfer it to the hand line or do we need to fish exclusively with a hand line in order to be eligible to win all the glory?

I'll be there even if I don't bring my kayak to see some some of my NCKA family.

I have a Tarpon 160 you can borrow/test drive here in the East Bay if you don't want to transport your kayak so far.   :smt001  :smt006

Hey Rodney,

Show us you Willies!  :smt002

My buddie has a place near Tamarack so I
know you've got some great trails and lakes up there. I'm nearing the end of my 69 FJ40 build and hope to get up to your area for some wheeling eventually.

Congrats on the kayak and see you OTW!

Let me know when you’re ready to wheel! I live in Murphys and love to wheel. Here’s a photo of my 46Wilyz.

Sick! Looks like a section of the Rubicon I've only seen in videos.

My 40 is not going to be that hard core but it's going to be much more capable than stock and I did some fun stuff with it when it was stock. I'll hit you up once I get it road/off-road worthy.

And I will say it's not a waste of time to try for halibut in the harbor as well if you can't get out the jaws at HMB
..

I'm still in as well, got my hand line spooled with 80# hoping to get some time in learning to use this set up before 4/20!

Dang no protection at all?

You rebel!

I'm still feeling Kevin should attach his nice keel guards with Shoe Goo or some industrial type silicone.

I like this stuff for sealing everything and embedding my transducer in the hull, it's pretty bomber even when submerged. JB Weld is too brittle you need a flexible bond.

Yeah for sure I am also in the camp of not intentionally drilling holes through my kayak that are on the outside of the hull and below the waterline.

Just get some strips of Keel Eazy and replace them every couple of seasons, you don't have to reinvent the wheel for God's sake!

Good stuff Finn, thanks for the updated report.

I figure it's like a thousand monkeys at a thousand typewriters, we will be catching some flatties soon enough.

See you OTW!

Conditions do look good especially the afternoon tide.....buuut lucky for me I can no longer adjust the days I work based on how I see the fishing conditions or I'd be broke.  :smt003

Go get um Bassefinn looking forward to a report!

For Sale / Re: used eddylines

Fudge the 14'ers blue...I'm partial to the yellow, nice and visible. Not really in the market but do like the Eddyline and these do appear very lightly used.

I went out yesterday. Tide was right, color was right, temp was right, bait concentration was right, fishing was right, catching was all wrong. Spoke to everyone fishing out there, sizable fleet. 1 fish taken (not me) for all the boats around me. Gonna be awhile. No party boats, and really that says it all.

Well there you go, nice that it's not just me I suppose. Report was so that folks further away didn't have to drive too far to get skunked, they can  just get skunked closer to home. 🙂

Thanks for the confirmation report johnz!

Got to the lot by 9:30, place is filling up and I'm thinking gee has the bite been on and I've just been out of the loop?!? Launched in a quick methodical fashion and soon had multiple perfect sized jack smelt along with a few oversized drag pullers! Very Large Fleet was south so trolled my way down to OAP, weather is soo nice with a light
wind from the south.  :fish :yak  :sunny:

Got to the PB fleet ....solo kayaker :yak.... they move further south and I hear the half day party boats heading off with a "at least we got one" for the boat. Waters pretty murkey nothing wants my live bait or trolled herring it's back to the wall into the current ... again drift the wall and the gap and break out the swimbait.....No.  :smt009

Fish survey lady at the landing at 3 says only one legal brought in at 25".

Hobie Kayaks / Re: Rudder steering line repair issue
« on: March 14, 2024, 05:38:39 PM »
A long handled or extended ratcheting socket wrench with a hex headed socket, you can get a magnetic bit to hold the bolt and reach it perhaps. I have yet to get a Hobie so not sure.

My hard to reach repairs on the Stealth typically involve sting and some kind of trolly system to remount any mounting points that are accidently removed or damaged on my hull.
