hello ncka,

a couple weekend ago, i spontaneously bought fishing poles for my girlfriend and me on our way to a camping weekend in clear lake. sales associate there set us up with a beginner setup for fishing catfish and bass; when we got to clear lake we were told fish were dying and we had no luck fishing.

stopped into gus' yesterday and bought crab snare gear and excited to learn more about crabbing and other kinds of fishing, too!

live in SF,

– trevor

Hi Trevor, Sorry I'm really not a snare guy but more of a kayak only type. My friends were getting good numbers over at Ocean Beach in the early part of the season but haven't heard much since. My friend did get a limit off his kayak out in Pacifica last weekend out in 40-50' deep.
Good luck  :smt006

Welcome Trevor,
Crab snaring is fairly easy, there are lots of YouTube videos by local guys regarding the process. Plug in snaring from Ocean Beach SF you'll find lots of info.
good luck
Gary

After our first foray at China Beach my gf and I found Fisherman’s Life crab snaring tutorial and discovered we’d been doing everything wrong lol

Went to Fort Baker pier on Friday and my gf successfully snared a small dungeness! (yes i know you can’t keep dungeness caught inside the bay)

Still got some time before the season ends. Hoping I can snare a keeper at OB this week

Welcome! Take a trip down to Pacifica and go out on the pier. It is always busy. I'm sure there will be plenty of folk willing to help someone new.

Doing something like this is always the best way to learn, and advice like this is why NCKA is a great place.  Welcome to the forums.

Sometimes, when the water is quiet, you can hear the fish laughing at you.
