For Sale / 26 Gallon Craftsman Air Compressor
« on: January 30, 2015, 02:14:37 PM »
26 Gallon Upright Craftsman Air Compressor. Bought this when I lived in Texas.  Been used maybe 10 times at the most, it is now a giant piece of living room art as it is  a pain to go up and down a flight of stairs to use it.  I live in a second floor apartment and need to down size to a smaller more manigible unit.  When I actually had a garage this was what I wanted, a large 110 volt unit.  These go for $350 new, Asking $275  No Air tools (picture is current off of Sears site)

I have tried Surf perching a couple of times on SMC and struck out all three times.  Would love to do a hookup with someone on the SMC somewhere for a day to learn the ropes.  Even interested in taking a day out of work. Name a date and place or PM me.

Now, you think US troops suffer from PTSD, wait till one American Muslim goes off and kills a vet or a serviceman or woman.  The outcome will not be a good one. CCW request will shoot through the roof, and how will any sheriff in this state deny it?

General Talk / US Mil Surp Modular Sleep System (not Mine) 4 piece system
« on: September 17, 2014, 08:30:45 AM »
You may have seen Sarge or other people with this system.  The Army has gone through a couple of color changes from NATO camo to ACU, to Multi CAM, but the insides are the same. With compression sack you can get this system down very small and take it with you and adjust too.  If I had to replace this item it retails for over $300 to my unit Supply Sergeant, so at $99 it is a steal. Pick up a cot at and a nice sleeping pad and your set for what ever tournamnet NCKA can throw your way.

FYI I have nothing to do with this company, I just happen to know what the stuff cost to replace and know you guys like deals as much as I do on quality stuff.

For Sale / Military Surplus Site that is worth checking out
« on: September 11, 2014, 02:08:43 PM »
http://www.unclesamsretailoutlet.com/

The following site is connected with Goverment Liquidators, these are the folks who run the huge auctions to sell off a lot of military surplus stuff.  They also have a retail site, and I have bought some stuff to replace lost gear in the past.  Much cheaper than normal retail, or your average Mil Surp shop.  Things I can tell you is be knowledgeable of what you are buying, hydrations systems are often without the bladder, but normally a replacement bladder can be had fairly cheaply compared to a new one.  Sleeping bags, the Army got away froma  single sleeping bag years ago and now uses a 3 piece unit, sometimes you can buy all three pieces, sometimes you buy one section only.

MOLLE gear, to my knowledge all of the services are using a form of MOLLE gear. MOLLE is an attachment system, vastly superior to anything I have used in the past, there are different generations of MOLLE, and to the best of my knowledge they all fit each other, just keep in mind, you kind of look dorky if you have mixed patterns.

Definitions:
BDU: Battle Dress Uniform (making a comeback in the Jungle Warfare School) DCU: Desert Camoflage Uniform (used in desert storm and early in Iraq and Afghanistan)
MARPAT: Marine Pattern, a digitial pattern used by the USMC, two patterns a woodland and a desert
Multicam: What is used by the US Army in Afghanistan currently and will be switching to a varient of it in 2015
ACU: Army Combat Uniform, tons of this stuff will be availble, not the best pattern in the world unless you work in a quarry or hunt at night
Tiger Stripe: Airforce digital camoflage based on a pattern used in Vietnam
Navy Digital Uniform:  Not sure what is called, but God help you if you ever fall overboard as no one will ever find you

Both MARPAT and Multi Cam IMHO would be the best as far as surplus goes for hunting clothing in most of California.

General Talk / Best paddling boat for speed...for the money
« on: September 10, 2014, 03:30:47 PM »
With the new release of some new, longer boats, which boat offers the most glide/speed for the money?  Tracks well, and can be put on top of the rack without two people, and lastly not break the bank?

New fast boats out there: Thresher, Kraken, 575,
Old Favorites: WS 160

What you got, whats your opinion?

I am looking to replace "Das Boot," with somehting newer.

Kind of what it feels like when it gets choppy out there:

General Talk / Are you using the right length paddle?
« on: September 02, 2014, 04:20:52 PM »
For the last weekend I have been out with Jan just paddling with the old Necky Kyook I got from Craig last year.   She has been really on my case about correct form, and paddle placement.  SHe is of the opinion that my paddle (a 230 cm bending branches) is too short.  SO I did some searching and came across this from Bending Branches:

http://bendingbranches.com/paddles/kayak/fishing/angler-pro

Notice your height and the width of the boat come into play.  My 230 is most likely too short, and I should be using a longer paddle.
Which will be bad news for Jan as her lessons on paddle stroke have now left me to paddle fairly well, and get decent enough speed in a SIK for to not be able to stay with me.  No word yet on how that will effect the "Das Barge."

Like most of us, I only have one paddle and have rarely ventured out for another.  Time to start looking.  Unless of course I can talk Jan into a Stealth 575, than I can keep the paddle I already have :smt003. I can see it now, if Spend $2900 for a 575 I save $120 on the paddle!  What a deal right? :smt005  Didn't think so either. :smt009

Stealth / Stealth confusion
« on: August 28, 2014, 04:05:37 PM »
Hey Dan,

Like the stealth line up but I am confused at their measuring system on your site.

the 575 is 5.75m x 0.605m

but the Splash is 16.40' x 2.26' 16 feet and .40 inch? x 24.26 inches?

Correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks

General Fishing Tips / New use for a pool noodle
« on: August 20, 2014, 07:56:13 AM »
The problem
I don't know about the rest of you but I have the damndest time trying to get pre rigged anything back in its orginal package, or after making a rig where to put it without it turning into a giant ball of tangled @#$%.

The solution
One day I watched a video of some English guy using Pipe insulation for his lines on You Tube.  That gave me an idea:

1I took a foot long section of old pool noodle.

2 I take the Rock Cod Rig and Press the Swivel into the noodle as far as it can go,

3 Wrap the RC rig around the noodle until you get to the first hook, bury the hook into the noodle,

4 wrap until you get to the second hook and do the same,

5 When you get to the swivel for the weight, bury it in the noodle but not as deep as the previous swivel so you can tell the difference,

6 Move an inch or two and start on the next one, depending on type of RC rig or other rig you can 6-8 on a foot long section of pool noodle.

Advantages: Easy to clean, throw it in a bucket when your done soak it/hose it off.   If it falls over board, it floats!  No more tangled messes.  Cheap, I bet you got a chunk of pool noodle laying around right now you could od this with.  Less chance of getting hooks in the hand.  I also plan on trying this whith a salmon rig or two to see how it works.

Disadvantages:  I haven't come across any, but I suppose if I took a bunch of these salmon fishing then went RC fishing, I would be bending a lot of hooks, but that would imply I have caught a salmon wich hasn't happend yet.

I will Post pics later.

After several years now of going to my National Guard Drills early on Saturday mornings I have come to the conclusion that there is 99% chance that if you see me post that I am going to drill that weeked. that at 0500 on that particular Saturday weather conditions for the Brisbane tubes, and Oyster Point will be like a crystal clear pond, wind will be virtually non existant, tide will be perfect, and I am willing to bet the damn fishing report will be off the charts.

Since December of 2007 I have been making the trek from San Mateo to Santa Rosa, via hwy 101.  Sometimes as early as 4:00 AM or as late as 5:30 AM, never have the condition been anything less than favorable.  Now I have been out there a few times when I want to fish it, and I would rather paddle into an industrial fan, cause thats what it feels like out there, but put me in the Army combat Uniform, and the heavens part, and conditions are perfect.

Does anyone else have a place that plays mental tricks on you like that?
