This weekend was windy everywhere, I was hoping to go out to AWR but the wind kept that from happening... I did look at berryessa and Hennessey but it was windy up there too. Glad you got out. Thanks for the report. I have been seeing some big carp in the shallows at both the lakes.. assuming the bass are close by as well.

I got the day to get out, im planning on ARW unless there is a group meeting up elsewhere? I'm up in napa and the OC event is too far for a day trip. Anyone planning on going out? I'm interested in rockfish or halibut.

Thanks for the response. Any brand of braided line or go with power pro?

I have power pro one one reel and j braid on another... I prefer the j braid. It seems to run smoother through the guides which makes me feel like it would vibrate less underwater. It's also cheaper.

Does anyone have a favorite hook brand, size, shape? I prefer owner hooks but the local shop has a limited supply. Trying to remember if I use 2/0 or 3/0

My concern is more about the question "do I want the treble hook to swing freely or do I want it to be more stiff?"

When tying a stinger knot for halibut is a loop knot recommended or a hard knot such as a uni? It's been a long time since I used to tie these and can't recall.

Li-orca that's a great idea.. I will have to do that. I was out at ARW this weekend and two kayaks had their catch attacked by a furbag... one lost is fish (claimed to be 44") and the other lost the belly of his fish..... either way, I don't want to fall victim.

I have two Dakota lithium batteries and they work great, ive never had one die while using it for my fishfinder. Lightweight and compact and very huge benifets on a kayak. I am very interested to try one of chets batteries.. I just need something like a 100AH for my trolling motor.

Have you checked Lawson landing? As the crow flies it's only a couple miles from Doran Beach and it's at the mouth of Tomales Bay. The drive from Doran to Marshall isn't bad about 30 minutes and has an easy launch... I've caught leopards launching for Lawsons landing but the current can get really strong and make for a rough paddle back

I had a feeling, but thanks for the article.. I will certainly refer to it as I make my decision and install. I am open to recommendations from anyone else especially those who troll for salmon on the ocean.

General Fishing Tips / Anchor wizard to downrigger conversion??

Has anyone used an anchor wizard as a downrigger? It was just a random thought that came into my head today as I was considering getting a downrigger... if anyone has any thoughts or suggestions I'd greatly appreciate it.

I made it out today, a bit later than I hoped but was still on the water by 7. The first few hours were quiet, I did see some shakers being caught then at about 1130 the bite picked up....I ended up landing 4 halibut (first on my kayak) but they were all short... 1 might have been legal but I decided no to measure it and just keep fishing. I did meet up with John as he was wrestling a Leopard shark in his net. Talked to the game warden and he said he only saw 5 or 6 keepers. I did hear about 2 seal/sea lion attacks snagging someone's dinner and had one bump my kayak from below... still a great day and can't wait to get back out.

Thanks for the info... not sure I will be going there anytime soon.
