So I'm just getting my kayak ready for the year and have a chance to get out. The weather looks good (haven't checked wind/swell yet). Is anyone else looking to get out on either kf those days? Let me know.

I fought the launch and was on the water at about 830, headed straight out past the mile bouy to my first number. Immediately got hit and brought up a 25" ling. Went ti head to my next number and my pedal drive went out. I've seriously had nothing but problems with the damn thing. Knowing I had a long and slow paddle back I quickly tried to hit my other numbers but didn't want to travel too much further away from the launch so I just headed back.

Nice catch.

Too bad about the pedal drive. Is it a Hobie, or some other pedal system?

It's a feel free, typically the shear pin gets bent which I have learned to replace otw but this time it seems more complicated. Hopefully I'll be able to pull it apart and figure it out. I will say thus far feel free has had nothing but amazing warranty service but shipping the heavy and bulky peddle drive to the east coast will surely be expensive.

General Fishing Tips / Paddling pants vs. Wadding pants vs wetsuit?
« on: September 18, 2021, 11:24:30 AM »
Anyone have a preference on pants? I rarely beach launch as I'm running a tandem solo. Mostly want to keep dry/warm but thinking about launching from beaches up the coast makes me think wetsuit or wadding pants... the downside to wadding pants is if I end up in the drink could be very difficult to get back on the kayak.

Fished Monday and Tuesday, saw a ton of wildlife including humpback whales right out front of the harbor entrance. Caught some bait and headed toward the seal rock. Tried live anchovies, KA, swimbaits and other diamond jigs only to catch small rockfish and an undersized ling. Ran into Sharklure2? I think and a buddy of his, he had a good size ling to the boat but it spit the hook before the net could be deployed. Weather was good, hopefully I'll be back out there the 8th-10th. Although I might try moss landing??

I should be at the east ramp around 9am, catch some bait and head north to search for lings... unless someone can Lead me to another reef? Channel 69.

Monday looks significantly better than today.

Do you have a link to the Webcam?

I'm headed out to Santa cruz next week, anyone able to head out? After reworking my rigging and adding a livewell and sibiki I think my odds are much better. Still don't know the area super well, but I think I found the reefs.

General Fishing Tips / Navionics vs c-map
« on: August 20, 2021, 02:38:52 PM »
Does anyone have any real experience with either of these mapping products? I have a lowrance hook reveal and am looking for a mapping software product to help me quickly fund reefs while I'm out. Also open to other suggestions.

Sorry for the late report, I got a late start and didn't make it down until about 11am. Got the kayak launched and realized the bearings on my trailer were gone, so I didn't fish all three days. Spent most of my time on the water searching for structure as I've never fished the area. Caught a few rockfish nut nothing worth keeping. Headed back down the 23rd-25th if anyone is able to join id love the company. Also I've done some reworking of my gear, have a livewell on the way and made a few adjustments to my tackle/rigging

Anyone planning on being out in Santa cruz this week? I'm planning on fishing Monday- Wednesday, hoping to have someone else out there as there is saftey in numbers. Also any advice on area would be appreciated, it will be my first time in the area. Targeting halibut and rockfish unless I find evidence of salmon in the area. I will be on channel 69TIA
