Great detailed report Eric. I went out at Pigeon Pt last Saturday and experienced pretty much the same fishing and weather conditions. Feels great when that cool sea breeze hits your face.

Size up and wear a rash guard underneath. Or switch to a dry suit.

Yep, I suggest you invest in an angler drysuit like Kokatat.

I maybe missing something but the description doesn't mention it works specifically for kick up fins.

If somebody has a Youtube tutorial it would be great to share here.  I found this video at 20:30 mins but its not detailed on how to change sprockets.  Too many parts involved and easy to miss something.

If you want to waste some time, google Cart Narcs.

First time I've heard of that YT channel.  Here's a good one.

i've been using an Amped Outdoors battery since 2020. Very happy with it so far to power my Raymarine Element 7.
I just saw this video that shows its well rated. I own a 12AH and 15Ah Lithium Battery (LiFePO4).

Hobie Kayaks / Re: Amazon Hobie Idler Cable
« on: July 12, 2023, 02:46:18 PM »
My order came in, package says shipped from Pennsylvania . Installation is easy.  I opted for this after market cable because an original Hobie idler cable is nowhere to be found.
I'm curious did your original break? My 180 problem has been the either the spine assembly or the fin mast snapping.

Hey Jason - The original one snapped while I was OTW. I replaced it with an original idler cable, the rubber coating split and there's rust on the cable. Instead of waiting for it to break, I replaced it with this Amazon cable. I've also undergone a spine replacement on the same drive.

Same cables as my Shearwater 125. I have noticed that you need to make sure to have these dry with the peddles facing up to prevent water from collecting in the chain to cable piece and rusting. it's like a cup, hold water and is the weak spot. I have had a couple break while out on the water. I carry two sets of cable and tooling for on the water replacements, which is alot of fun :smt013

Thanks for sharing, I see your Mirage Drive Chain Assembly broke.  How's the idler cable holding up?

Another Kokatat interaction is with my Hydrus Whirlpool Bib. I did DIY leak repairs with Aquaseal on the sock area.  Kokatat informed they cannot do any repairs if Aquaseal is applied because it messes up their equipment and patches won't stick. I was told that both socks had to be replaced.  I was offered 50% discount and they will use Goretex instead of the original Hydrus material. I said yes, it was done a couple of years ago and still no leaks.

A few months ago I sent my Tempest pants in for leak repair. Kokatat informed me the fabric is delaminated and sent me a brand new one.  Very happy with their action.
