Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Knife suggestions?
« on: January 16, 2021, 06:58:27 AM »
I completely agree with Pmmpete that a folding knife is not a good choice. After owning several knives I now use the NRS Pilot knife. It can be deployed instantly for an emergency situation.  The blunt tip prevents stabbing yourself specially around the neck and head area.  Here a real life example.

Thank you for your post. Your story is something Iíve been thinking about while placing downriggers on my boat and heading up to mountain lakes,...that specific situation, snagging on something and your entire world changes.

Iíve yet to purchase a dry suit, because of cost, and (stupidly) not wanting to appear like a rube worry wart while everyone around me is seemingly super chill in regular everyday outdoor gear. Iím not a great swimmer, not in great shape, with joint issues. Iíd also like to lose a buncha weight before dropping a G on a dry suit,...but, yno, money doesnít matter after. Adding dry suit to credit card this week, because I wanna go home at the end of the day.

Sorry that you lost a ton of gear,....thankful that youíre here to tell the story. Thank you for sharing.

I just spoke to Kokatat customer service about sending my drysuit in for a warranty issue.  Due to high demand there is a 3 month delay if the drysuit you are ordering is not available.  I love Kokatat products!!

I use a piece of cord and carabineer to secure my pump inside my Revo 13.  Been doing it this way 10 + years.

Hey Jason, Thats ordering from Australia. I tried it out when I was shopping for their transducer cover. Shipping was over $50 and it takes weeks to get to the USA.

Thanks for all the input! Although itís not making my decision any easier! :smt002
Based on your first post and depending on your budget, a FJ wetsuit and paddling jacket should work.

Does anyone know of a dry bib or dry pant with a relief zipper?  I have been shopping for winter gear, and would prefer to go the 2 piece route, but I gotta have a zipper.  I have not been able to find that option in anything but a dry suit.

I have 2 bibs, Kokatat and Level Six. Kokatat is my favorite. I only use bibs for fishing local bay area lakes.  Keeping my feet and butt dry makes them worth it.
For the ocean, I only wear my Goretex drysuit and layer accordingly.  I never went back wearing a FJ wetsuit which is how I started.  These garments are pricey but the comfort you get makes a long day OTW more enjoyable.

Its the forklift's fault.

There are also defective kayaks out there that are brand new.
