Dont do it.  When you have a regret on the water, shit probably already hit the fan.  Too small, too slow, too unstable, not enough room, etc etc.  Dont do it, please.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: electric motor suggestions

Mount it on the side and make sure your yak have enough stability or practice so you can clear line easily.  Stability is not an issue with 2019+ Outback, see below for mounting.

If you get a truck, your cargo space (truck bed) is not secured unless you get a shell/bed cover.   If your towing requirement is not too high, get an SUV.   I have an old Acura MDX, bought and install the tow hitch myself easy.  Can tow up to 5000 lbs if i am not mistaken (but i am towing nowhere its limit).

Epic for sure!  I dont know much about your daughters, but for my daughter at that age, a simpler setup would've been much better.  I took my daughter at to Disneyland at 4 years old, when we get there, all she wants to do was just ride the carousel and nothing else  :smt044

Good luck though, I really do admire your epic plan and I hope you all have a great time!

General Talk / Re: Bixby Motor: Where to mount and store it all?
« on: November 04, 2022, 01:33:57 PM »

This is what I did http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=97365.msg1091493#msg1091493

This way you can use the mirage drive still and able to lift the motor to clean up weeds or whatever that tangles.
There was a post as well about mounting it on the rod holder, I think it was 123engineering?  I could be wrong ....

You can also use a handheld manual sprayer.  I found it that for me, I usually need at least 2 gallon, 3 or more gallon is better.

Hobie Kayaks / Re: Hobie outback AI conversion!!

Thanks, yeah I am trying to find a way where I can seal it but not permanently seal it so I can access back there for future checks on my install. My top speed is about 6-6.5 with my fat 220lb lol!! I can’t complain about it!!
Goop it, I would imagine that you only need to access that back hatch once in a blue moon.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Flat fall jigs recommendation
« on: October 18, 2022, 05:55:11 PM »

Try Bob, who is a member here, if you are looking for jigs.  I agree with others, for rockfish, you dont need a fancy jig, just something that will go up and down the water column will do.  I use 4 oz minimum, often times 8oz or more.  Bob's jigs are killer.  Also, for jigging, I prefer a stiff rod, easier on me when I have to do it all day (medium+).

Waders should be against the law

Most of the people here like drysuits which are probably great as long as you don’t have to swim any distance or in rough conditions

For a short spell I worked in a drysuit and switched back to my wetsuit for a few reasons, the most relevant here would be about swimming. Drysuits are nice as long as you’re dry but a lot more awkward to swim in

On any given weekend I swim anywhere from 2-6 hours a day doing surf video, wetsuit especially in rough conditions is the only way to go

Odds that you’ll end up swimming might seem slim but it happens

As always just an opinion

Heard a surfer was attacked up your way
^^^ This ^^^  Why chance it?  When you hit the water, your survival rate diminishes.   Why do you want to lower that rate?  Drysuit is probably the best option, but it is expensive and you have other option.  A wetsuit with water resistant jacket is going to do fine for most folks.

If I am the beneficiary of your life insurance and I hate you, I would say go use the wader.  But if you insist using the wader, do me a favor.  Go dip yourself in a 3 feet of water for 3 minutes, in a surf to add more fun,  then you can make your decision after.
Fishing is a bonus, going home should always be the goal.

Hobie Kayaks / Re: Shout-out to Hobie and CCK for customer service

I agree, CCK is outstanding.  The owners are embedded to the kayaking community and the staff are kayak fishing nut case like us.  I never hesitate to spend my money there.

Thank you all!   And yes, protect yourself and get out of the way.  If its authority, they would understand if you explain it to them, I mean, its not like you are getting away at high speed, right?
Recovery is extra slow and really big bummers sometimes.  There are many good and bad days.  Glad to be on the mend, but the bad days are really really big downers.  There are stretches of days where the pains are non stop and plenty of new pains, but I am hoping that it is sign of progress.  The healthcare systems are not quite helping albeit the people that I am in contact with are very helpful.

But aside from the recovery, there are moments where I cant help the family due to restrictions.  The wife has been a champ and takes over a lot of things that I used to do, no doubt a keeper for sure.  But even then, we both realize that its a long haul recovery. I try to be positive, but facts are not helping.  Lots of missed family moments as well.  But, gotta keep on truckin' rite?
Thank you all for all the notes and support, none of it are wasted, I am absorbing all the positive energy  :smt007   I need them all.

Dont skimp on whatever hardware/rope that you use to attached the mirage drive to the yak.  Use stainless steel and err on the thicker side of the rope if in doubt.
