Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Red colored hooks
« on: April 19, 2021, 11:02:22 AM »

What kind of coloring process do they use to color the hooks red?  Would a regular home depot spray paint (Krylon?) work?  Any thoughts?
I prefer my hooks to be of red color, if nothing else, to make me feel better  :smt044

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Rusty hooks - What do you do with them?
« on: April 19, 2021, 11:00:36 AM »

Just curious of what people do with their rusty hooks.  Since hooks are cheaper, do you A) Put them aside and use new ones, B) WD40 and un-rust them for more use, or C) Both A & B?

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Broken rod handle
« on: August 15, 2020, 08:06:53 PM »

My rod broke about 5 inches from the end.  Any idea if this is fixable?  I have the broken part and the broken part and the main shaft are reasonably "clean"  :smt044
Surf in safely, jump out and the yak turned and flipped last minute, should've held on to it, but I was thinking it's so mild, just let it ride  :smt013

Let me know if you have one you want to sell.  Can trade with Boonedox Landing Gear with sand tires (bought it used but never get around to use it).

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / ACF 50 (Anti Corrosioin)
« on: June 19, 2020, 08:12:34 PM »

Anybody use ACF 50?  What do you use to keep your electrical connector from salt issues?  I am wondering in particular about the fish finder power and transducer connection.  Thanks in advance!

General Talk / Social media reporting / postings
« on: June 17, 2020, 09:19:25 AM »

Youtube, facebook, instagram, snap, NCKA, other forums.  It's the internet age and everybody does it, so it's the new norm.  I do believe the ocean is big and the bite is still up to the fish.

This is completely true, but if you really look at it, some of these kayak anglers with a large following on Youtube also should have better discretion about pointing out spots.  I'm not saying all these locations are supposed to be kept secret, but until recently, some of these spots were kept on the down low among the kayak anglers.  You don't necessarily have to point out the exact location, some people just provide general area, such as Marin, San Mateo Coast, Monterey, etc which is fine.  There is nothing ok about blowing up some of these spots on youtube just for the sake of getting more views/likes/followers.  Some people post to share, some people just post to get views/likes/followers....there's an actual difference.  I won't mention names because some of you snowflakes can't handle my foul language or rat me our for attacking a member, but you know who you dudes are.
Agree with sharing info to help friends and small community to catch fish.
Over sharing on the internet crowd won’t end well.

No arguments Chet & Smoke and to a certain extent, I agree.   What you both said are just simply the facts.  But it is just the new life reality, the internet is meant to be viewed and shared.  I am talking about all platforms here, NCKA or otherwise.

We all look for reports to better educate us where to go to save time and effort.  And there is no doubt that we all enjoy any reports that we can get.  Your report participation is a social obligation especially if you benefit from any report.  I personally like the Coast Side mentality (share the co-ordinate), but that's just me and Coast Side is paying members only.

So what do we do?  Blow up fishing spots (aka full report), report with retracted information, private messages, circle of friends only, or hybrid?

I think the answer is hybrid and perhaps some discretion is a good idea.  Let me just state the obvious here, nobody had suggested any rule social media posting and of course anybody can do whatever he/she wants.  So, perhaps we can ask the public reports to just include general area and have discretion on the specifics of the spots?

In any case, I do think that bashing our own members publicly is not the way to go.
