The SF Bay has some restrictions too.

For areas under the jurisdiction of SFPD (including Alcatraz, parts of Angel Island, and parts of Marin)...
Quote
Use and operation of personal watercraft ... is prohibited ... within 1,200 feet of the shoreline or the farthest extension of the shoreline of San Francisco, as defined by its landmarks. The San Francisco shoreline shall include, but not be limited to, all of Yerba Buena Island, all of Treasure Island, the east shore of Angel Island, all of Alcatraz Island, between Point Bonita and Yellow Bluff in Marin, and from Candlestick Park around the San Francisco Peninsula down to the extension of the County line below Harding Park.
SF Police Code SEC. 4700.6

(Pier 52 is the only legal launch for PWCs from San Francisco to transit through the special use zone outlined above)

In Marin county...
Quote
Use and operation of personal watercraft ... is prohibited ...  all waters within the territory of the County of Marin accessible from a shoreline, or the farthest extension of the shoreline of Marin County as defined by its landmarks. The area is to include the shoreline of the Pacific Ocean from the Sonoma County line to the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco Bay shoreline from the Golden Gate Bridge to the Marin/Sonoma County line at the Petaluma River. The special use area includes but is not limited to all estuaries (Estero), rivers and bays within Marin County jurisdiction. This special use area shall also include a distance of seven miles inland from the mouth of the rivers or navigable creeks.
Chapter 11.36 of Title 11 of the Marin County Code

I think they'd be a great platform, but they're very limited in the areas I fish (see image below).  I see one guy launch out of Pillar Point every now and then and fish or crab the same areas inside the reef of HMB, but that's about it.  I was also surprised they're not more popular outside the MBNMS.

General Talk / Re: My sourdough won't double in size!

If you want some of my starter I can send you some. It will take a few weeks for me to prepare it. I dry it out and send it in an envelope in the mail.

I appreciate the offer and all the advice from everyone in this thread.  I think I'm gonna have a go at starting fresh because I have a penchant for doing things the hard way.

I almost got into sourdough with the rest of the bandwagon at the start of the pandemic and bread making has always called to me. Living in a tiny, cold apartment in SF with plenty of really good crusty sourdough within 2 blocks walking distance kept me from making the jump.  This thread has revived the desire...  and now I have the space... and it seems we live in a crusty bread desert now.

The question now is do I start a starter from scratch or get someone's discard and go from there?  I'm not new to working with yeast -- I used to harvest and propagate various strains of proprietary brewers yeast and step them up for brewing beer -- so I think I'd do fine starting from scratch, but I'll yield to the experts here.

Craftsmen's Corner / Re: Windsurfer mast for Hobie AI project...
« on: January 07, 2024, 11:03:25 AM »
Just brainstorming here... but I'd find a piece of pvc that's just smaller inside diameter than the outside diameter of the mast.  I'd chuck it up on a drill (for pvc I usually make a quick jam chuck from a dowel with a lag screw in it) and sand a taper on the end.  Then split the pvc down the length on the table saw.  Now you have a sleeve that will fit over the mast and can be used as a centering jig. work some epoxy in the open end, but just enough to lock it in place (maybe a dab here and there).  Remove the centering jig and epoxy the entire void.

A problem I often had in my old apartment was the "room temperature."  Our kitchen never really got warmer than 66° F and that always meant proofing took extra long.

General Talk / Re: fishing license auto-renewal

Auto-renewal has worked great the past 2 years that I've had it enabled.  I believe you can only enable it at time of purchase, not after the fact.  So you'll be able to manually renew and enable auto-renew for next year.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: 250yds of dropper loops
« on: December 10, 2023, 08:36:59 AM »
Neat way to batch it out!  You might be able to adapt my dropper loop jig to suit this and make it a little easier.  I'm thinking a piece of foam around a dowel where you put the spool so it has some friction as you pull, maybe a crank on the output spool to take up the slack as you make each loop.

Forgot to include the link, doh!  https://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=95190.msg1071254#msg1071254

I just learned about those big wave vests recently and they look neat as hell.  One feature that I thought was pretty trick was that they had multiple cartridges/charges so your day wasn't over or seriously delayed after one pull.

So, question of the day:

Does the Gulp juice actually make the swimbaits work better?

I might have to taste test to find out ...

John Skinner has proven it time and again back east with fluke, striper, seabass, etc.  Well, as far as proven can go in fishing.  He tested gulp without gulp juice and gulp that he recharges between drifts.  All on the same boat, same colors, etc. and the gulp juice outfishes others.

Made this again last night... didn't have enough Kalamata olives, so we used a mix of Castelvetranos and Kalamatas with good results.
