I took offense at first, then i read a few posts back said you're bringing a couple deaf people along then it made sense and i kept telling myself "maybe hes just deaf". Its all good. Monkey see monkey do like someone said earlier.

Hi guys, how "entry level" is this event? If i do attend, it will be my first time fishing in the ocean. I took the safety class yesterday at hmb, and was able to experience less than ideal conditions. I am very excited to get out. Im assuming itll be safer since there will be so many people out. Also i thought it might be a great ncka icebreaker for me to attend an event like this.

Also, any entry-level hookups coming up soon for hmb? Maybe next weekend?

Finished the class. Learned a lot. And learned a lot about reading the conditions that i had always misinterpreted. Matt was our instructor, great guy! I recommend this class for everyone, it is very important to learn self rescue. Looked easy, but i couldnt get it until a few tries later. Conditions today started great, by miday wind kicked in. Was not able to do any surf launches, but we got to go outside the "jaws" for a bit. On they back, wind kicked in and was very tough paddling back to the old pier. The class was just me, sebast, and another guyfrom s.f. who will be lurking on here soon, suprisingly he has never heard of ncka. All in all, had a great day, learned and experienced a alot, and made a few new friends over a beer. I am officially ready for battle, but something to always remember, kayaker first. Fisherman 2nd, when out in the big blue.

I was there last week fishing from shore. Its suprisingly 95% full. Water is very clear. Fished from 11 to 1. Got skunked. I snagged a twig and while i pulled it up, a 2lber was following. But did not eat. Im sure you will have better luck on a kayak as this lake has a lot of cover.  But then again, last year the water level was like 1%. Most the fish probably died/ate each other/fished out. My buddy pulled one about 2lbs couple weeks ago, he only fished for 30mins.  Good luck!

Just a heads up guys, i just ordered my first conventional setup. This is only running a few days so hurry! Great for anyone trying to save on a nice rod or reel. I saved on both since i bought a combo.  Also free shipping on orders $49 or more

http://www.sportsauthority.com/product/index.jsp?productId=42499536

The penn jigmaster combo. Don't know how good the rod is. The "slammer" they call it. Anyone have it like it?

I figured its a great deal since most places sell the jigmaster for the same price by itself.  Deal came out to about $71 before tax.

Cant wait to catch some lings with this!

It looks like its going to be early may, but ill keep you posted. The class provides all ewuipment, kayak, pfd, wetsuit. Im bringing my own gear just so i can get acustomed to it. And also to get a 10% discount. Its regularly $120. Its not much considering 7 hours of hands on learning, and at the end of the day you got tools to save your life that are invaluable. To me its a lvl up.

Hey skellyca check out the thread i started for the upcoming class. They canceled the original planned date because they did not have enough people enrolled. I have heard great reviews about the class and the instructor.
