The flyer is below. Call to reserve your spot. Bring your own kayak or rent one from us. We will provide all the gear necessary. Must be ready to get cold (We will provide a wetsuit). This class is not for people with any pre existing  medical conditions as cold water and hard paddling can exacerbate those conditions. We have a 250# weight limit for our kayak rentals. It is best to bring the kayak you paddle most of the time. This is an important skill to know s a kayak fisherman. Email me if you have any questions

General Talk / Ocean Whitefish!!!
« on: November 03, 2019, 11:12:35 AM »
I have been fishing/spearfishing Monterey for over 10yrs and am starting to notice I am catching more and more ocean whitefish. I had never caught any, seen any, or heard of anyone catching them until about 2 years ago. Wondering if everyone else is noticing this? I love them they taste great! Maybe we should add them to the list on AOTY. They usually put up a better fight compared to similar size rockfish.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Max drag needed?
« on: October 14, 2019, 03:53:36 PM »
I plan on doing quite a bit of fishing in Washington next year and was going to by an avet reel. The one I am looking at is max drag 14 or should I step it up and get a max drag of 20? I have friends that catch up to 80 lb halibut and am wondering if a 14 lb max drag is enough to yank one off the bottom and still also be able to do some salmon fishing on the same reel. Any thoughts?

General Talk / What Kayak Brand should MBK add to their retail?
« on: October 02, 2019, 10:23:18 AM »
I am looking to possibly carry a new kayak fishing brand. We will continue to sell Wilderness, Old Town, Ocean Kayak, and Perception. Just was curious what you guys and gals have been using and what I should look into as a possibility. I know some brands are better for freshwater and have taken a demo out of a few of these brands. Just want to know what the salty dogs here think?

General Talk / MBK Fishing Derby Suggestions
« on: October 01, 2019, 10:43:23 AM »
Hello All,

I will be throwing another fishing derby next year and have already started to collect prizes for the derby. My question to all of you is what can I do to make this event bigger and more attractive? The turnout was low this last year even though we had some really big fish. I would really like to see NCKA come out in full force and represent our area as I am also trying to get Fresh N Salty Kayak Fishing crew to come down and CCKF to come up. Any ideas would be great!

Thanks

General Talk / Monterey Tax Collectors AKA White Sharks
« on: August 06, 2019, 12:06:08 PM »
Hello All,

Just wanted to let everyone know the tax collectors are in heavy right now along with spiny dogfish. Buddy caught a dog tooth right next to me a few days ago then something hit my 60# braid and it was cut instantly right above the hook. Fishing tour this morning saw 3 tax collectors at the first can (shale Island) chasing a school of bait. My guides have been seeing them everyday for the past three days. Just a heads up if you catch something big best to not hang over the side for a bit
