For Sale / Crab Hoops
« on: November 17, 2023, 09:47:54 AM »
Have a few crab hoops for sale. Exact same dimensions as the Promar Ambush 32 inch nets around 6lbs each. Used for one a few trips and fish great.

55$ each. Located in San Jose.

Pic next to a Promar for comparison.

I fished from shore at SB a lot during my UCSB years.  Where exactly are you going to be in SB?  The area around Goleta Pier is real good as well as Campus Point which is about 3 miles north of the pier.  Drag around 3-5" swim baits for halibut and some calico bass.  Stearns Wharf (the harbor around Castillo St.) has halibut and WSB as well.  A lot of guys float tube around there and it's good prospects there as well.  I like to check this site http://www.surfline.com/surfline/forecasts4/forecast.cfm?alias=socal&county=sb&f=1 before I head out.  Looks like some real flat and calm surf.  Should hook into a lot of pancakes.  Let me know if you need more help.

Nice.  You can get them from shore this time of year.

Places to Launch and Camp / Re: Morro Bay Intel

If you don't bring the yak, there's a bunch of shoreline there you can try.  Halibut can be had from shore there around the sandy areas and rockfish can be had along the jetties there.  There's a few piers inside the harbor that hold some bait.  You can catch bait inside the harbor and fish live bait.

There were a lot of larger fish before they drained it.  Most the fish in Caples are your average stockers now.  Used to be a great lake for fish around 5-7  lbs.

We do get different species of pipefish in the bay.  I've cleaned a bunch of stripers before that have had these critters.  Maybe something brownish colored would work, but there are other reliable lures.

www.windfinder.com is great for tides inside the SF Bay.  Has Alameda and Crissy Fields on there.  Check it out.

Fresh macks bled and iced right after landing are excellent on the grill.  Squeeze a bit of lemon on it and it is delicious.  Sardines aren't bad either.  It's hard to find real fresh macks and sardines at the markets up here though.

Is the class full yet?

If you stop using the second rod after keeping the first rockfish, you are cool. at least that is what the SC DFG dudes told me one day.

J

This is what I initially thought as well, but according to the DFG dudes I spoke to out near Bean Hollow, they stated clearly that if you hook a rockfish using multiple rods, it must be released as there is a one rod restriction.  The regs do state one rod/2 hooks once a rockfish/ling is onboard or in posession.  I also emailed Ed Roberts from the DFG a while back and he also agreed that if you catch a rockfish using multiple rods, it is not a legal fish to keep.  Just be warned that the DFG could potentially cite you for it.  But in this case, it was obvious that he kept using two rods after he landed the rockfish.  I'm definitely not trying to flame anyone.  I just don't want to see anyone get a ticket for not knowing or not understanding.  The true problem lies within the DFG agents who think differently.

Nice, but remember, when you use two rods and accidently catch a rockfish, you must let it go.  Rockfish have a 1 rod 2 hook restriction.  Even though you are targeting halibut with two rods, you were actually in violation by keeping the rockfish when you were using two rods and using two rods after keeping the rockfish.  DFG will definitely ticket you for using two rods when you have a rockfish in your possession.

Very nice pictures there.  That "silver perch" is a rubberlip perch by the way.  Monkeyface Eels do have a slightly different/fishy taste to them.  Usually you either like them or you don't.  I like to fillet mine and marinade it in a soysauce marinade or a teriyaki.  It is very good broiled as well.  Coloration can also vary as well..  I've caught them in colors from dark black to light brown.  They seem to change color after death though.
