Hey ya'll

Gonna hit up Lake Berryessa in the wee hours of the morning launching from the Pope creek day use area and fishing all around for some bass.

If anyone wants to join hmu! I'll be in the sand dune 2019 Outback.

I did that Pope Creek launch once this year with the Outback and was only able to after meeting another Norcal Kayaker there. It is a 2 person job for an Outback for sure, especially getting back up. Putah Creek at $15 is worth it. Cappell Cove launch might still be free. It was earlier. Someone recently caught another 14 lb Largemouth.

I ended up going for a few hours on Sunday on my little i9. Started with a herring and as people started catching shakers around 11:30 I decided to not miss out and switched to an anchovy and got a 16" shaker. Beautiful weather.

Was considering poke poling. I usually hit the San Mateo coast. My old favorite spot was turned into an MPA and the other spots just aren't s good. A friend and I once pulled 8 eels out of 1 hole.

I'm shooting for Saturday, looks marginally better. Both days it looks like outgoing to a big low and then a little bit of incoming before the wind kicks up by 1pm or 2pm.

Darn, I bought a new rubberized net and I thought it would be better for the tails, but looks like maybe not. I used a fish gripper on a short with no problem, (and on a 26") but now it sounds like that can be a problem too. If they aren't close, I will just try to grab the hook.

Those Fresh n Salty guys look out for each other. Their get-togethers can be a bit large-scale for my taste though.

I think someone in Fresh n Salty said they found one on the side of the freeway around there. Could he have left it on his car roof instead?

Safety First / Re: How big of a wave will flip my Hobie?

I'm newer to the Hobie pedal scene. I'm wondering if a wave hits you sideways with the flippers in a down position, do they catch the water and keep the boat from sliding over the water and therefore overturning? Would setting them in a flat position against the hull work in such a situation? With my old Necky Looksha sport, I could just brace into the wave and let the kayak slide.

Awesome fish. My goal this year is to get one over 30".

I've been there once and was able to pick up a gopher rockfish and a small cab off the West jetty using a white swimbait. Tried for halibut over the sand but got nothing. I didn't go out far since it was super foggy. Launching is super calm on the beach next to the jetty. Beautiful area.

So it's not just me. The white croaker bite was huge last Sunday :smt013. Couldn't keep the bait on.

I tried TI today but had to work AM so started at noon. The milid tides seemed good, wind was calm and I found the NE put-in. Slow bottom troll with a herring on FBR. Thought I had a good Hali, but then it ran, peeling drag, abruptly came off and bait was hardly scarred. I'm thinking maybe it was a mud marlin. Wind came up around 1:30 pm, headed in around 3. No other bites.

HMB for Friday and Saturday is looking better on MS. I may head over on my little inflatable i9 (a topwater lure for WS). I often just venture a couple hundred yards outside the jaws if I'm not feeling it. It it's clear and calm enough I'll go out to the buoy if others are around. Inner harbor is a pond and outer harbor is a small lake, so great place to start out and get comfortable.

Super foggy this AM at Doran. I have a phone app showing location but think I will get a fail safe compass in case the phone dies. I stayed mostly within site of the jetty or earshot of the breakers to keep my bearings, but was somewhat surprised at one point when checking the GPS. Ocean was calm, I could see it getting much more difficult with chop and swells pushing the boat around.

Awesome! How deep were your fishing? I got 2 in 3 trips to HMB but 0 for 3 at Alameda RW. Looking for a Bay alternative.
