Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Truck Bed Extenders?
« on: May 02, 2021, 04:50:44 AM »
I have a short, short, tiny little pickup bed on my Nissan, and a Trident 13 kayak.  I've been thinking about getting a hitch-mounted truck bed extender for short, quick, toss-it-on-and-go trips to my local lakes.  Has anyone used one of them?  Is anyone still using one?

I'd appreciate your thoughts or hearing about your experiences.

(And also, if someone has a better idea for how to quickly and easily transport a 13'6" kayak in a 5' pickup bed, let me know).

Wanted To Buy / WTB Late model OK Trident 13
« on: March 03, 2021, 07:23:28 AM »
Not for me.  A new member of NWKA is searching for a recent model year Trident 13.  If you have one or know of a dealer with one in stock, PM me and I'll relay the information to him.

Ocean Kayaks / What are these for?
« on: May 01, 2020, 03:51:37 AM »
I have a new Trident 13.  On the outboard port side, next to me, are two wells nuts and I have no idea why they're there or what one would do with them.  You can see them in overhead pictures of the 2017- Tridents.

Does anyone know why they're there or what they're for?

(They aren't a problem, just a mystery)

Safety First / Travel "ban" still in place?
« on: April 05, 2020, 05:17:16 AM »
Has California lifted the non-essential travel restrictions?  If not, I wonder why there were so many vehicles - cars, truck and RV's - with California plates passing through my little town Friday and yesterday heading North on US 101.

I counted 18 in total, and I was only headed to the market and back home.  That's 18 more than I'd seen in the previous 10 days.

No longer looking for an Ocean Kayak Trident 13.  Found one.  Thank to all who made me an offer.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Compatible Rod Holders for OK Mod Pod
« on: February 22, 2020, 03:35:35 PM »
I plan to try trolling for kokanee this year and want to (temporarily) add a rod holder.  Figured I'd use the molded mounting sockets in the Mod Pod of a 2016 OK Trident, but don't know if it fits the splines for RAM mounts or for Scotty mounts, and I don't own either one to test it.

Anyone know?

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Camera mounts?
« on: February 17, 2020, 11:18:44 AM »
Looking for options on mounting a GoPro to a Trident 13.

I fly fish and I can tangle a line in rigging faster than you can blink, so I'm looking to mount it behind me and to my left, extending outward a foot or two and forward to about parallel to my ear.  That location shouldn't interfere with casting.

I don't want to use a track mount (see above about blinking an eye) and would prefer adding a spline mount or going back to carrying a milk crate.

I'm asking before I start drilling only to find it won't work, so any thoughts, suggestions, or "Here's ow I do it" advice would be appreciated.

Safety First / Wetsuit recommendations
« on: July 10, 2019, 04:34:59 PM »
I can't tell if this is the pace to ask the question, but here goes.

I want a full suit wetsuit.  I have no idea who's making solid products.  I'm looking for recommendation from the folks who wear them doing what I'll be doing in mine (not peeing, so let's skip right past that).

I have a dry suit, but I have too many situations in which I don't need that level of protection.  I have a spring "shorty" wet suit, but I've been in water where a little more would be a much better idea.  A full suit will be my Momma Bear immersion wear - not too much, not too little, but just right.

I fish with a guy who recommended a Henderson Talon and they appear to be great suits BUT... I can't see paying $400 for a suit I'll use maybe two or three times a year.

If this helps at all, I don't want to go with a farmer john/dry top combination if for no other reason than that's can be darned near as expensive as another dry suit.

Up here in NWKA, it's dry suit country.  Down here in NCKA, wet suits are much more common.  You folks would know what I should be looking at.

Give a fellow a hand, please?

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Removng plumbers putty
« on: July 06, 2019, 10:34:24 AM »
From a transducer.  I was given an old Elite 4 fish finder but there's plumbers putty smeared on the beam end of the transducer and it appears it's interfering with the signal.  Maybe that's why I got the unit for free?

Anyway, is there a way to get that putty off without further damaging the lens?

Wanted To Buy / WTB - Lowrance Transducer
« on: July 06, 2019, 10:00:03 AM »
I find myself needing a Lowrance HDI 83/200 455/800 Skimmer Transducer - the one that came with the old Elite and Hook (Series 1) fish finders.

If you have one in good condition you might part with, please let me know.

Kayak Fly Fishing / Need a new saltwater reel
« on: May 30, 2019, 01:21:40 PM »
And I'm looking for suggestions.  I had my eye on a Lamson Litespeed until I read comments that they don't do so good in saltwater even when properly cleaned after use.  Rats!

What would you suggest?

For Sale / (SOLD) Kokatat Hydrus3L Supernova Angler
« on: December 09, 2018, 12:58:53 AM »
It's the end of an epic adventure and time to sell off what I won't be needing in the future, starting with my immersion gear.

I've had it since early 2016 and I've worn it all of four times, so it's in Excellent to As New condition.  No leaks, no abrasions, shiny clean - heck the latex wrist gaskets still have that powdery look to them.  If it'll stop raining and I can take some pictures in natural light, I'll post them.

Tangerine (orange).  Size Large.  I'm 5'10" and 200 pounds and it fits like it was tailored just for me.

$362 plus shipping ($375 plus shipping for regular PayPal).

For Sale / Two Great Fly Rods For Sale
« on: June 27, 2018, 05:07:24 AM »
I have two great fly rods that have been laying on the closet shelf for far too long...

Echo Boost Salt, 9'0" 6wt 4-piece, 8.5 condition.  Clean cork (some bits of filler is missing), no nicks or dings or scratches.  Original rod sock and triangular tube.  I've fished with it twice, both times in freshwater, and I really like it but am stepping down to a 5wt to better match the pitifully tiny fish I catch.

Redington CPS, 9'6" 8wt 4-piece.  Good as new condition.  Pristine cork (plastic is off), and not a mark on the blank.  Original rod sock, tube and warranty card included.  It's never been fished.

These are both great fly rods and someone should be using and enjoying them.

Selling them individually, and I haven't settled on prices, but $80 for the Echo (includes priority mail in CONUS) and $100 for the Redington (also includes shipping in CONUS) seems reasonable, and reasonable OBO's would be considered.  If we can deliver them by NWKA Express, it'll save someone $10 per rod.

Kayak Fly Fishing / [SOLD] Getting Rid of a Fly Rod
« on: June 27, 2018, 04:46:40 AM »
I'll post something in the For Sale classifieds, too.

Echo Boost Salt(water), 9'0" 6wt 4-piece.  SALE PENDINGSALE NO LONGER PENDING.

The Echo is in 9.0 8.5 condition.  I've used it twice, both times in freshwater.  I really like his rod but I'm stepping down to a 5wt to better match the fish I seem to catch  :pale:.  Cork is clean but missing some bits of filler, and there are no nicks, dings, or scratches.

Comes with the original sock and tube.

It's been sitting on the shelf in my closet for too long and someone should get some use and enjoyment out of it.

I haven't settled on pricing and am open to OBO's (or suggestions).  If we can arrange an NWKA express it'll save someone $10...
