Hi All,

Went out on the Tigerfish out of HMB.  Tigerfish was the Makaira out of Santa Cruz a long time ago.  Had a good day.  Flat calm like a lake and fished 5 to 6 miles out of the harbor.  Right in front of Martin's Beach.   We had 2 DFG people aboard.  The guy was in his 30 yrs old and a young college girl learning the ropes.

I released 3 undersized lings (lizards) and 4 canaries.  I had my limit pretty early.  There was one keeper ling.  12 anglers.  Limits but a lot of small fish.

They had two yellow Labs (Ahi and Mochi) on the boat and if you were eating something they would come and put their heads on your knee.  The dogs belong to the Capt and deckhand.  Started at 7 am and last drift was at 1 pm.  On the dock was a crab boat and I got a couple of crabs.

Meet Danny (Superd270) at around 6:15 am.  We were probably had lines in the water by 7:30 am.  I had 2 thunder trout in a little while and then had a streak of bad luck and missed like 4 to 6 trout.  I think I had my limit by 9 am or 9:15 am.  All my thunders were 15" to 17".  Chartreuse w/gittiler power bait

Danny had 2 or 3 trout by that time.  We were tied up to my anchor and had the only one anchor.  So, we stayed out to 10:30 am maybe and Danny had his limit of 5 trout.  Some rainbows and thunders. 33 ft of water near Standley Blvd.

Good day and nice weather.  This lake fish better with a little wind and is pretty hard to fish in heavy wind or calm conditions.  We had lunch at Bob Burgers.  Good fishing with you Danny and thanks for lunch.

Lines in the water at 8 am.  Tens mins and I had a double running. I set the hook on both lines and started pulling in the bigger fish.  Got it in and started on the other.  It wrapped around the anchor rope and it took awhile to get it free.  Close to the yak it pops off.

Long story short I was done by 9:50 am.  5 trout all dfg fish.  Biggest was 16" and I was fishing near Stanley Blvd in 33 ft of water.  All on Rainbow power bait.

Looked on their website last week and they planted last Wed and all the trout were penned up near the boat ramp.  They had a string of nets laid down and they let the fish get use to the lake before letting them out.  Don't know if they will keep this up.  Everyone thought there was going to be a "Kid Day" that weekend.

4 to 5 boats on the water and a float tuber.  A little windy but not strong.  No Thunder trout today.  Everyone was catching DFG fish.  Shore guys looked slow.

Got on the water at 8 am.  First fish was 8:10 am.  Second trout was at Noon and the last one was at 12:30 pm.  Real nice day with very little wind.  Saw a few yakers.  Gary was there with his buddy.  They left at 11 am and Gary had 4 trout.

Mas was there and his is another Japanese Fisherman.  It was great talking to you all.  All fish on power bait.

It has been funny.  Last week and this week I would meter fish and the ones that would bite few the ones and doubles.  When I would meter groups of fish there would be no bites.  Seems like it was better not to have a fishfinder.

Hi All,

It was windy last Thursday and maybe that killed the bite.  I got two and one was a small Thunder Trout (14").  I was wondering if the small Thunder Trout all have the black spots on body and a striped tail.  I have gotten bigger Thunders and they were all yellow/gold with a red stripe.

All Fish on chartreuse power bait and 32 feet of water near Stanley Blvd.

Thanks, Ken kickfish

Hi All,

I was out Dec 23 and got 2 trout (13 to 15 ") at Shadow Cliffs in Pleasanton.  All day from 9 to 4:30 pm.  First trout was at 10 am and second was around 12:30 pm.  Long day, but with the Full Moon a few days ago I knew it was going to be a late bite.

Next day I talk to Kyle (Shadow 10 I think) and his dad Bruce in the parking lot.  Kyle has a Prowler 13 and his dad is a float tuber.  I don't think they did to good.  I was talking to Kyle every now and then.  They were in radio contact with each other.

Slow pick until around 11:30 am.  I had my first trout and felt like a good one.  But, it wrapped me around my anchor rope.  It was gone before I could pull it up.  I got 4 fish from noon to 1:30 pm.  Would of had my last fish around 2 pm.  But, it broke my 4 lb leader.  Stayed until 2:30 pm.

Shadow is getting trout from Desert Springs Trout Farm in Oregon.  Trout look real nice and are pretty good fighters.  They are raised in a fence off river and not in a pen or tank.  All had orange to red meat.

All fish were caught in 28 to 32 feet and green power bait. Biggest was 17" and 2 lbs.   Click on photo address in middle of the two photo.  This show the 15" on the first day with red meat.  Don't know why it did not up-load.

Happy Holidays,

Hi All,

Had a very good White-Fronted Goose Hunt.  Friday Dec. 10, 2010 we had a little wind and clouds all morning.  Hunting near Sutter Refuge near Marysville/Yuba City on private land with Mike Moore Valley Guide Service.  5 hunters and we had limits of White-fronts, 2 Snow Geese and one Ross Goose.  We left the blind at 11 am.

Next day Sat. we had 6 hunters and had 7 White-fronts and 2 Snow Geese when we stopped hunting at 12:30 pm.  Both, morning were warm.  Starting out around 47 to 48 degs and high was around 65 deg.  Sat. was a little foggy at start and calm.  It became warm and sunny with no wind.  The little wind and overcast helped us on Friday.

Hi All,

I was on the water at 8 am and finished up at 11 am.  I got 5 trout from 11" to 17" all on Chartreuse powerbait.  Fishing in 32 to 36 ft of water near Stanley Blvd.  There were 6 other boats and it seem like maybe one other boat did better than I did before I left.  Maybe 20 cars in the boat launch parking lot.  So, it is starting to get busy there.

Hi All,

Got on the water 8:30 am.  Had 3 fish by 10:30 am.  All Trout 15" to 16" on rainbow power bait in 28 to 30 ft of water.  They planted  today around noon.  I think it was 500 lbs.  Stayed until 2 pm.  Messed up on the first hit and the last hit.  Still, I had some fish to smoke.

Hi All,

Got a little late start.  On the water by 9 am.  Anchored up in 34 ft. of water.  Metering a steady line of fish on the bottom.   I had my first one after 5 mins.  Then, lost my second and third trout to the cormorants.  They were thick.  I know the 3 other boats were having a problem the them also.

My 4 th fish was 22" and 5 lbs 10 oz.  Limited in 90 mins.  All on green power bait. 3 out of the five trout had red meat. Others were 13 1/2 to 14".

Got on the water at 7 am.  There were 5 boats at the spot I wanted to fish.  I had to stay on the outside and watch them catch all the fish.  I got one small one at 8 am.  Missed a few bites and then at 10 am one of the boats left.  I reeled up my lines and anchor.  I had 2 other boats running for this spot.  I got there first.  Bite was a slow pick. Wind was coming from all over.

Then at 11 am the wind started get strong and blowing from one direction.   I had a double going.  Got both trout and then got a 4 lb 14 oz (22").  Finished by noon and all other trout were 12" to 14".

Hi All,

I finally got a half way decent trout at Shadow Cliffs in Pleasanton today.  6-2-10.  I was on the water at 7 am and had four trout by 9:00 am.  All 12" to 14 " and all DFG planters.  Then, it went dead for me. No bites for around a couple of hours.

Half of the DFG fish I  still catch have the pink meat.  The others are white meat.

At 11 am I get a nice bit and can feel it has some pull to it.  It jumps out of the water behind me. After a while I can feel the anchor rope on my line.  I am only using 4 lb test and it was rubbing pretty hard.  I decide to back off the drag and put my pole between my knees.  I start pulling up my anchor rope and I can see the fish had wrapped my line a few times around my anchor.  I got mud from the anchor all over my fish-finder, lap, hands and kayak.  I finally get the wrap undone, pull in the fish and net it.  It was 3 lbs 9 oz and 19".  All in all a good day.

Yesterday, I had five trout in 40 mins time.  All trout on green (chartreuse with giltter) power bait. 28 to 32 ft of water.

Got on the water at 9 am.  Lots of boats already coming in with limits.  I should have had my limit.  I was getting doubles and a few times the power bait was not even hitting the bottom.  When, a trout was running with it.  I ended up with 3 rainbows.  12, 13 and 13 1/2 inches.  Bite ended at 9:30 and 10 am. I stopped fishing at noon.   I don't think I got a hit in the last 2 hrs.

I was surprised when I got home and started to clean them.  They all had pink to red meat.  The bigger two had the flesh color of a salmon, steelhead or like a Eagle Lake trout.  I am cooking them right now.

Sorry, no pics.   I think my camera died.  Big accident on the Sunol Grade (680) going there.  Accident was on the side headed towards San Jose.

Pretty slow day for me.  Got on the water around 10 am.  No wind and pretty warm.  Missed my first two trout of the day.  They both ran with the powerbait for a little while and then dropped it.  Got my first fish around 12:30 pm and last fish at 2 pm.  Both little DFG stocker 12" and 13".  I left at 3 pm.  Just got tired of sitting on my yak.

Just before I left I had a pair of Mallards (Ducks).  Messing with my lines and looking for a hand out.  The hen jumps on my yak and I took a few pics.  I would have invited them home for dinner.  But, they would have been dinner.

Hi All,

I went to Quarry Lakes on Tues. 11-25-09 and got 4 trout.  They were 12" to 16".  Started fishing at 8:30 am and left at 4:30 pm.  I could not get the last one.

Then, I went out today from 8 am to 3 pm.  I got 5 trout today.  11" to 15".  Both days were fishing 12 feet to 22 feet of water.  Mainly on the back side of Horseshoe and with green powerbait.

If any one goes there.  The inspection this year is a little hard. I don't know if it is just this new supervisor.  Only been checked out by him both days.  The first day I did not wipe down my Yak.  After, I unloaded off my truck at the boat ramp.  There was just a little rain water on the seat area.  He was not going to let me launch.   I told him it rain just a few days, ago.  He looked at me and if I was lying.

Then he checks inside the hull and says it has a little water, too.  I told him it was condensation.  I got out a rag and started wiping down the Yak.  He let me pass.

Then, the second day.  I took like 10 mins. on a side road to wipe down everything before going to the gate.  He still told me my Yak was a little wet and told me to open up the hatches next time before I come .  He even told me my anchor rope felt wet.  My anchor rope is made out of nlyon.

I think it my be easiler to fish Shadow Cliffs from now on.  At least there there is no inspection.  Hopefully, this guy will get easier on all Kayak fishermen.  The more Yak he inspects.
