A bit confused about the season opening date, is it 4/1 or 5/1 in Santa Cruz, HMB, Monterey area.

It is a bit windy here in San Jose but loaded the kayak and planning on trying my luck at ARW for hali. Should be there around dawn and leave before the wind picks up.
Will be on Ch69, hoping to see a few of you out there...

General Talk / Game meat?
« on: December 19, 2021, 10:47:33 AM »
Hello there, trying to figure out what we want to eat for Christmas and I was thinking of doing something we use to do back home in
South of France but for that I will need to find game meat; either wild boar or deer. The name is 'daube', in short you marinate the meat overnight in red wine and a few other things and slow cook it for several hours.

Anyway, the only place that comes to mind to find game meat is Los Gatos meat but not sure they have any (there are closed today) and I was wondering if you guys could recommend a place or two. Also willing to 'trade' with local hunter.

Thanks and happy holidays

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / SC tomorrow
« on: December 10, 2021, 04:44:44 PM »
I haven't been active or fishing in quite a while as I have had knee surgery that kept me from a lot of things. I'm doing better and I think I'm gonna to go to Santa Cruz tomorrow before the weather turns and the season ends. I know there is no fish in SC but just being able to get OTW sounds very appealing right now and if I can hook something even better ;-)

General Talk / Fillet knife recommendation
« on: June 13, 2021, 06:52:15 PM »
I usually cook the whole fish but decided it might be good to use fillets. Don't want to spend a fortune, any recommendations?
Thanks

General Talk / Sunroof repair recommendation
« on: June 10, 2021, 10:25:53 AM »
My daughter is back for the summer and I'm trying to see if I can get the sunroof of her 2011 Ford Escape repaired. Ford told me I need to replace the rails....

Can anyone recommend a shop or a person?

Thanks in advance!

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / SC 5/1
« on: April 30, 2021, 06:52:48 PM »
I known it is supposed to get a bit windy after 11AM and that there is no fish in SC but I decided to give it a try and get my water therapy (first time since last year season ended...)

I will be launching out of Dock A early (depends when I wake up) to come back before the wind picks up....

I will be on Ch69.

If you don't see a report it will be because I didn't catch anything ;-)

Places to Launch and Camp / San Simeon Campground launch?
« on: April 04, 2021, 11:19:16 AM »
My wife and I are going there next weekend and even if my doctor didn't recommend it, I'm considering taking my kayak and I was wondering if I can launch from there?

I posted on the CCK Facebook page but somehow I don't see my post so hoping NCKA can help as well :-)

Thanks and Happy Easter everyone!!!

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / [RPT] HMB 10/18
« on: October 19, 2020, 07:12:03 AM »
Went to HMB yesterday after not being on the water for a while.

Launch at first light from HMK, heading toward the green can and fish the reef there a little and went toward the red can. Was hoping for lingcod but only caught 4 small RF that I safely released; 1 copper, 1 red, 1 back and 1 brown. So good diversity but not lingcod or cab.

The fog came in fairly quickly around 10 and I slowly found my way back to the harbor using my GPS.... Quick reminder not to forget your safety equipment.

I heard of our couple of lingcod being caught but haven't heard of any salmon.

Anyway, it was nice to be the water

Traffic to go back home was not ideal, a lot of folks at pumpkin patches....

General Talk / Today thunderstorm :-(
« on: August 16, 2020, 07:12:58 AM »
Well I had the car loaded last night and woke up at 3:45am. The thunderstorm woke me up but I didn't think too much of it. I was watching the news while having breakfast while I got an amber alert for severe thunderstorm.... Waiting a bit longer and decided to stay home but now the weather seems better but it is kind of too late. Oh well I thought today was the day to go back on the water but I guess I will finish my bathroom instead.
Hope everyone is staying safe. Tight line everyone...

General Talk / HVAC install?
« on: May 08, 2020, 12:24:17 PM »
Looks like we are going to spend more time that we think at home and I'm seriously considering replacing my original furnace with a heating/AC unit and looking for quotes.

I would definitely prefer using a local smaller guy and ideally someone from NCKA community.

Please DM me if you are interested or know anyone.

I'm located in San Jose / Cambrian and the house is about 1550 sqft.

Cheers

My daughter just told me that apparently they re-opened the beaches in Santa Cruz? Is it true? What about Dock A?

Found it browsing the net and thought it was kind of cool. Didn't realize it was that big but oh well. Have you guys tried it before? It was given for halis and lings...
Can't wait for the season to start

General Talk / Sanddabs?
« on: January 11, 2020, 03:44:47 PM »
Missed the opportunity to go out before the end of the season (went back home for the holidays) and could use a little water therapy and my wife loves sanddab. Any reports lately, moss landing, MBK?
