I always assumed if eating fish was so bad for you that we would see hundreds or thousands of people being diagnosed with mercury poisioning.

I mean I would suspect that half the people on this board are crazy, have you heard of mad hatters disease? I myself have an insatiable thirst to catch fish. I will probably one day become a crazy old fisherman singing/drinking Brandy out loud in an alleyway lol.

Hey Brandaay, you're a fine (you're a fine girl)
What a good wife you would be (such a fine girl)
But my life, my lover, my ladaayyy is the SEA (doo doo dood ood ododoodoo)

what the hell happens to the poor perch down there?! maybe runoff from storms or something. I fished ferry pier during a rain event and it smelt like a pool petroleum...

General Talk / Re: How often do you change you main line?

Ive been using a top shot (30 ft) of mono or flouro to a swivel that i snap my terminal gear too, and just replace that a couple times a season and maybe cut off 20 ft of my braid each year. The topshot gets shorter and shorter then I just re-tie a new topshot w/ the FG knot. Rinse gear every outing and will prolly respool in a little bit but my braid (65 and 40lb power pro) seems healthy for now, prolly 4 yrs old only. Its easy to tell when your mono/flouro is shot from the abrasion. But usually all the damage from rocks is on my leader.

General Talk / Re: Fillet knife recommendation

Have you ever watched the Indonesian/southeast asian fillet videos where they have that round sweeping blade for tuna and wahoo? I was intrigued and bought one of those, its great for slicing through ribs and stuff but its way to heavy and sharp ive cut through spines on accident and gotten into the other side of the fillet with it lol. Maybe i just need to practice with it...
Those blades perform well on the videos and appear to be very sharp, but they look like they'd be difficult to sharpen because of the shape of the blade.  Possibly the people who use those blades have a specialized sharpening tool or technique for them.

ill be ready for a 200 lb tuna i guess

Anyways i just stick to the victorinox i got on sale at an englund marine sidewalk sale, I just hit the steel with it before every use and prolly need to stone sharpen it couple times a year.

Depends how big your bank is!

Personally I have found that $200 is the bottom limit to most outfits (rod+reel) where you start to enjoy the build and handling of the equipment.

a bunch of the bay area youtubers got autopilots last winter so you should check them out, nick and diehard forsure have them. diehards last clickbait title said his motor died, i havent watched it yet tho.

1 inch and 1 inch overlaps, then i cut around it, but I dont actually think ive used it on the textured part... I think I only hit the smooth parts on my outback, maybe just use a larger border then 1" to make sure no water can creep in there.

i used clear gorrilla tape over my stickers, working so far
