Title: Hobie TI FF Battery Placement
Post by: kkamra on August 23, 2020, 01:22:36 PM
Hi All,

I recently got a new to me 2018 TI a week ago and am absolutely loving it.  I am in the process of installing the fishfinder using the Hobie FF III install kit with the gel cell battery.  On a PA or other Hobie kayak, this battery holder would typically mount to the sail mount near the front of the boat.

From my understanding, on the TI, it is usually put in the rear round hatch, but I was planning on putting a safety/emergency kit in there.  Can folks tell me where they put their battery mount on the TI?  Note that I plan to have the FF for use in the back seat, just ahead of the port side cup holder.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!!

I used to have battery in rear hatch on my AI and it was working good, but it took valuable hatch space.
So in TI I mounted it behind (closer to aft) rear cockpit's hatch (glued styrofoam base to prevent it from moving around)

I've got an AI, not TI, but I use the rear hatch for the battery, with a few strategically gooped pieces of pool noodles to hold it securely in place. I'd bet that there is plenty of room for both the battery and emergency kit.

My battery case for my FF is inside the front hatch. It’s an old diving mask case that fits one of those 12V bricks perfectly. I marine-gooped it to the floor of the boat. From there I ran the cables through the hull on the left side of the mast mount.

I guess I missed this part. My installation probably wouldn't be useful to you. But good luck!
