I always thought the limit is 5 trout/king/Kokanee in combined at lake berry. But someone posted this on FB berry fishing page. So which one is right? I looked through the current reg, and couldn’t find the exact verbiage. Thanks in advance!

Hobie Kayaks / Outback New Hull Rough Water Worthy?
« on: January 19, 2021, 10:13:18 AM »
The new (2019 onward) Outback hull is out for some times now. I would like to hear first hand feedback on how the hull is doing in our ocean, particularly, in rough condition. About a month ago, Tong and I were in some nasty weather. We virtually got out and decided to come back in due to the strong east wind. We were on the water for about an hour. White caps and fast drift at 2+ knots. Water coming over the bow. What really surprised me is that my 2017 outback is virtually dry inside, but Tong said he has about 4g of water. I would like to know if this is an individual case, or others have experience the same amount of water in their newer hull OB in such condition. I heard about the faulty front hatch rubber gasket problem on some of the earlier 2019 OB. Maybe the newer ones don't have this problem? Interested to hear your feedback. Although I am very happy with my 2017 OB, the new hull's bigger Lowrance ready is growing on me.

General Fishing Tips / Dry Top or Dry Suit?
« on: July 17, 2020, 11:29:09 PM »
Some of you know that I bought a 2014 Hobie Adventure Island earlier this year. Today I took it out to the ocean with full rigging for the first time. It is a lot of fun except my upper body got wet and cold after 2 hours sailing in choppy condition. My lower body was fine since I'm wearing a NRS sidewonder bib. As I am coming in, I was looking at dry top from NRS, but later some folks suggesting just buy a dry suit. So which one do you recommend, dry top or dry suit? and why? I found there are many different kinds of dry tops from NRS with fairly large price range. Is there any particular model I should get? Thanks in advance! James

CA Regulations / Need some help
« on: May 12, 2020, 02:29:00 PM »
Two questions hope to get clarity.
1. Is it legal to use squid jig (more than 2 hook?) when a RCG or lingcod in possession? I know we can’t use more than two “regular” hook once a RCG or ling on board, but what about squid jig?
2. Is it legal to transport live squid with water and aerator? I know it not legal to do that with fish, but what about “bait”?

General Talk / Fibrotic salmon meat?
« on: September 10, 2019, 09:39:17 AM »
This fish was from 2 weeks ago. It has multiple white patches in the meat. See picture. Texture is harder. My guess is fibrosis. But I’m not sure if that is a thing in salmon. What do you guys think?

General Fishing Tips / Centerpin
« on: July 24, 2019, 10:14:07 AM »
I have been following "Fishing with Rod" a little while on YT. They are B.C. Canada based. In his video, he uses centerpin reel for salmon. Anyone experienced centerpin on kayak trolling for salmon over here? I read somewhere long time ago about the surface drag is better with those reel, but not really sure if I truly understand the difference.

General Talk / Fish Finder Battery Not Charging
« on: March 25, 2019, 09:08:17 AM »
Saturday night I was doing my trip prep as usual. Plugged in my FF battery into the charger (both are from Hobie Battery Kit), to my surprise, the charger started blinking in red. I tried pluging and unpluging it a few time and it repeated the same thing, so I figured it is not charging. Has anyone experienced similar problem in the past? Any idea would could cause it and is it fixable?

Battery is about 1.5 year old. Used about 100 times and always have juice in it. Lithium Lead acid battery from Hobie. I usually charge it the night before and unplug the next morning before heading out (average 5-7 hours of charging).
