Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Swaying when anchored
« on: December 22, 2019, 09:12:25 AM »
Thank you guys for the replies!  Consensus seems to be that it’s just part of kayak anchoring I guess.  I like the idea of holding the rods and I’ve tried the leg over the side with limited success.  I’m on a mission now and I’ll probably get it figured out over the next few trips.  Hope everyone has a merry Christmas

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Swaying when anchored
« on: December 21, 2019, 05:06:08 PM »
How do you guys keep from swaying back and forth in tidal waters when anchored.  Does anyone use a drift sock?  I have anchored in the American Sac and Montezuma  but always seem to drift back and forth.  I have a qras set up off the stern.  I have sturgeon fever now and don’t k ow if I’ll be able to detect a bite while swinging.  Thanks for any advice!

Fishing Tournaments and Events / Re: Doran Crabbin' - Slow or just me?

Dropped 4 pots overnight for 1 clicker male and one undersized female.  Pretty bummed as I dropped 4 traps and only 2 were there this morning.  All traps were Danielson with the same floats/weight so it’s hard to believe 2 walked with the swells....

The tides were and are really big this week and next.  It's possible the traps walked and disappeared if you didn't have enough line or weight.  Poaching and stealing is still likely.

Totally possible they walked too.   I just put some new floats on to replace my pool noodle floats because the damn seagulls love to peck them.  May have been a combo of big swells/tide/ and new floats.

Smart and final on Freeport has chicken drumsticks for 59 cents a lb if you want to stock up on crab bait!

On the water before sunrise, trolled and threw spinners for a couple hours for no bites.  3 boats out there jigging and trolling with no luck.  No fish rolling, I’ve put in about 10 trips for one fish so far

Biggerthanyours:  I used a silvertron, mepps spinner and rattle trap.  Been a few more times with no bites but will keep at it.  Also dove for 2 flying c’s that I saw and snagged a nice jig.

Hello, riding a leaky tarpon 120, mostly fish  the American.  Caught a Salmon and steelhead along with a striper out there last week.  What a great fishery!  Need to refine my salmon skills though, mostly fish around Watt/Howe.  Would be happy to fish with anyone on weekdays

Hey I'm Dave, got a kayak last month and have been using it by my home on the AR by Watt and at the Port a couple times.  Have been doing pretty well, but missed a striper on live bait tonight that felt pretty big!
