« on: March 06, 2011, 10:17:19 PM »
Looking for the best rack system to transport my kayak on top of my truck. I have Yakima racks currently mounted on the shell of my truck, but debating which kayak pads to get...

Any feedback is appreciated.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Live Bait Larry Sucks at Customer Service
« on: February 09, 2011, 10:19:34 AM »
Need to vent:

Most of you who some my post on my kayak knows that I spend WAY too much on friviless stuff; but nonetheless, I like too...

In an attempt to correct some of the concerns regarding layout of water intake and exhaust, I contacted and ordered parts from "LiveBaitLarry.com". After recieving a payment confirmation email, I was under the assumption that is was on its way. Calif-to-Calif is 2days when shipped via Priority Mail 94.2% of the time; I know I work for the USPS.

After not recieving anything yesterday, I contacted them this morning; and boy are they RUDE on the phone. After a few minutes they finally told me that they were running 14 day behind on shipping. I asked them why they charged me for the parts if it has not shipped; she looked the order and said that it will go out today. I asked her why wasn't I notified about the delay, I could have got the part elsewhere? She asked for my name, found my order and said very rudely, "It will be funded back to your account tonight."

Great customer service!!! They lost my business for life.... I will look esle where to find the parts!!!!

{done venting}

I currently have camping reservations at Seacliff for this weekend and was considering bringing my kayak to do some fishing.  :fishing2

Would love to have some company paddling in this area since I am new to this sport and have never paddled in this area before. :shark

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Where to buy wetsuit/waders?
« on: February 03, 2011, 08:21:33 PM »
On to the next phase of this hobby, finding the right clothing to wear, so I need to know:

What is the best Bay Area place to buy "Farmer John" style wetsuits and other water apparel for kayaking? Look for the place that has the widest selection; size and quantity.

Thanks!!!

Ocean Kayaks / Yak-zilla - My Prowler 13T Project
« on: January 17, 2011, 09:10:00 PM »
Took advantage of the holiday weekend to start installing some of the accessories on my P13.

> 2 - Scotty Round Flush mounts at the bow of the boat.
> Garmin 188C Sounder - the unit was actually larger than anticipated, so I took off the stock sounder cover. Also used a mini water bottle to house all the wire connection.
> Garmin GPS Antenna - Opt'd to mount it inside the hull; less chance to get damaged.
> 12v Battery inside the waterproof Pelican case.
> 2 - Scotty Square Flush mounts at the rear of the boat.
> Seadog 12v connector; to power the live-well.
> On/Off switch for the live-well.

Future projects:
> Complete the plumbing on the live-well.
> Complete the Anchor Trolley installation
> Add rod holders on live-well
> 2 - Sea Dog Flush Mount Rod Holder with Cap.
> Rear Drift Anchor (Scotty)

I'll add more pics as I complete these projects....

Thanks for all your ideas!! The one thing good about being the last one is everybody just about tried every type of installation; making it easier for us newbies to replicate. Plus, Ocean Kayak made it real easy with the new 'Rod Pod' cover....

General Talk / TAPs Plastic - San Leandro
« on: December 22, 2010, 02:14:47 PM »
If you happen to be around the San Leandro area and need some miscellaneous pieces of plastic, stop by TAPS plastic. Today only, they are giving away all the scrap pieces of plastic away free.

I went in to get a couple of scrap pieces to use as backing for mounts on my new yak and walked out with a couple of boxes of plastic, acrylic and starboard pieces. :smt114

They close at 6pm....

Kayaks / Want to get into the scene...
« on: November 14, 2010, 07:36:05 PM »
hi Yak'rs!

New to NCKA and was looking into picking up a kayak.... Now... I have ready alot of the posts, seen alot of mods/upgrades and I know the best way that one should select one is by test riding them out.... but (as most of my friends know) free time is extremely rare.

Looking real hard at purchasing a WS Tarpon 160 and want to know you Pro/Cons on this yak vs yours.

Here's some info on me:
1.) Like the best toys on the market; (ie quality, functionality)
2.) Like to upgrade and/or add mods (ie electronics and gadgets)
3.) Easy to use; but won't get bored of it.
4.) Mostly close shore ocean fishing; with some lake and delta use.
5.) 5'-6", 190lbs; haven't exercised in years (have mostly powered toys; boat, bikes, etc..
6.) Need to be able to strap it to my RV.

Thanks!!!
