The new application allows residents and nonresidents to display California sport fishing licenses and validations on their mobile phones and other mobile devices in lieu of a physical license.

You can download the "CDFW License" app from your App Store and install it.  It took me about 5 minutes to install, verify, and link to see my license information.

For additional information, visit CDFW site: https://wildlife.ca.gov/LicenseApp?utm_medium=email&utm_source=govdelivery#603364102-what-is-the-cdfw-license-app

CA Regulations / Re: 2024 Rockfish 20-Fathom Boundary Line
« on: March 19, 2024, 03:13:57 PM »
Note the 2 fish sub-bag limit for vermilions. There was an option on the table for 0 but they settled for 2. The big question is at what point vermilions become the next quillback which had been subject to precaution (but no regulatory action) since 2021 but quickly transitioned into an emergency no-take depth range closure by the end of last year. Hopefully this year's anticipated gang bang fishing inside 20 fa won't subject vermilions...as well as all other nearshore species...to the same fate as quillbacks.
I am not sure they considered 0 sub-bag limit for vermilion.  I thought they considered 2 or 3 sub-bag limits.

I like the revised version 😊

I was delighted to see that CDFW incorporated our comments.

In what document?
JoeDubC and I commented on moving out the waypoint #63 (near Fort Ross), approximately 1/2 mile, and the final version relocated it.
This revision provides access to all our favorite rockfish spots.

I’m reading a 6 week window in SF management area?  I guess that’s a start?

6-month nearshore (<20fm) rockfish season for SF, Mendocino, and Northern Management areas.

PFMC just adopted the GAP proposal.  The next step is for FGC to adapt on March 26, 2024.

In addition, during the meeting, the PFMC acknowledged the contribution of the Non-Motorized Vessel Workgroup (Kayak Anglers).

Why the November <20 ftms?  What is so special about sharktober that they want to limit inshore fishing?  This doesnt seem to make much sense.

I'm not sure. Maybe allow RF and Dungeness combo. I've received many complaints from hardcore fishermen that November and December have much better fishable weather.

Paul

Good point, and those things are true, but there isnt really an ecological or biological reason to close october, open Nov, and close December to inshore fishing, so why regulate it unless it is for these less-important reasons?

You are correct; they are not based on ecological or biological reasons.  They are based on input from California Recreational Groundfish Advisory Sub-Panel (GAP) members and interested stakeholders in which we participated.

CA Regulations / CDFW Inseason Groundfish Recommendation
« on: March 08, 2024, 10:45:37 AM »
We likely get a 6-month nearshore (<20F) season in 2024 based on the latest CDFW recommendation to the Pacific Fishery Management Council (PFMC).
You can download the report from this link: https://www.pcouncil.org/documents/2024/03/agenda-item-f-8-a-supplemental-cdfw-report-2-california-department-of-fish-and-wildlife-report-on-recreational-inseason-actions-for-2024.pdf/

One of the options will likely be adopted by PFMC on March 10 and FGC on March 26, 2024.

Thank you for the information.  I stopped by a Costco and got a couple for me.
I remember paying more than twice for similar shirts.
