General Talk / Hobie Tandem
« on: May 13, 2015, 07:35:14 PM »
I am thinking of getting back into kayak fishing as my oldest boy is ready to join me.  A tandem would make me more comfortable so I can watch him closely.  I have a Hobie Adventure now so I figured the Hobie tandem would be perfect.

I was at Mel Cotton's yesterday checking out the latest and greatest.  The seats look very comfortable and the boats seem like they are loaded with the updated fins and rudder.  Almost had a heart attack when I saw the price!!!  $3400!  Are you fricken kidding me???

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the call last night.  I was a bit surprised to hear from you and even more surprised that I had won a raffle.

Joel and I go back to the days of the Yahoo! kayak fishing board before NCKA.  We've fished and camped together from Elk down to Big Sur.  While I don't get out on the water much these days, he's a good friend and my family is happy to support someone running to raise awareness.  Thanks again.

Jim – I’ll PM later this evening.

Tight lines - Kevin

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Malibu X-Wing Console

Ah the Rhynobar. Talk about back in the day!

But do you remember the "ghettobar"?  Basically a 2 by 4 connected by bungy cord to the front of the yak.

General Talk / Re: Calendar Software HELP!

I second Google calendar.  I've been using as my calendar for work for 18 months.  Syncs up with many phones and iCal (Mac users).  If you own a URL, it is easy to link to Google Apps.

There is an entire section about canoeing/kayaking ideas.

Sounds like it would be tippy...  If this Hobie is a rockin' don't come a knockin'...

General Talk / Re: Is it hard, costly to set up an event!
« on: September 25, 2008, 06:51:42 PM »
While AOTY is too much of a commitment for me, I enjoy following the event.  It has the makings of a great spectator sport.  Maybe add rules that focus more on strategy such as posting entries within a time limit (so no one is hoarding points until the last minute) and limit "trading up" (one would have to decide to book the points or risk not catching a bigger fish).

Who knows?  Maybe in the future there will be AOTY trading cards (what's a Jellyfish rookie card worth?), fantasy AOTY leagues (I picked Mooch in the first round b/c he moved back to HMB!), and betting lines in Vegas.   :smt002

I think a Team version of AOTY would be popular, too (esp. with the time challenged members or Freshwater only specialists).  You guys should start another thread to track suggestions.

Guess this OG NCKA'er.  Here's the "after" shot from the Bean parking lot...  I don't have a before shot as I was right behind the wave that "Savaged" him.

I believe fishing is prohibited at night on the bay.

I goop'd my pool noodle (wow, that sounds dirty)...  Works great.  I've heard others have used vaseline instead.

hi,

just to clarify again, half of these fish went home with Martin.  the other half was prepared, consumed, digested, ect...

I believe the fish are now in the possession of the SJ Water Company who runs the sewer system in our area.  It should be noted their form-factor is likely very different from the pics.

I would use the pool noodle to make a holder for the transducer.  The pool noodle seems to stick better to the inside of the yak than the transducer itself.

Cool report.  Am I the only one that wants to keep that little ling in an aquarium?  It would be so cool watching it eat and grow up.   Yeah, I know it is illegal and I'd never do it, but it would be very cool none the less.
