For Sale / For Sale: OK Malibu II XL Angler
« on: March 10, 2013, 12:10:44 PM »
I have a yellow Ocean Kayak Malibu II XL Angler that needs to find a good home.  :smt010 Pretty much looking like new. I keep it in our inside recreation room. I purchased new from Adventures in Sac in 9/29/10 (have receipt) which includes the original two seats and two paddles. I probably used it maybe a half dozen times when my youngest wanted to go out with me before he was confident to go out by himslf. I have also paddled from the middle position by myself. Great boat for a big guy or wanting to go for a paddle with someone else. I live up in the north state just outside of Redding. Will also place on CL soon. Please PM me a reasonable offer if interested.  :smt006

My back is as good as it is going to get so I said to myself I gotta get the new Revo out for it's maiden voyage today. Got on water by 9:00ish... flat down... no wind, a couple of strikes but no fish. The whole time I was thinking of how I am going to pimp out this yak and where to put everything. Very nice ride. :smt003

Guilt trip...I could not believe how much water you can cover. I can jump from one spot to another a lot eaiser. My legs are actually a bit tired. The only downside, I believe my other ole' Hobie Quest felt cheated on and to be honest, I love the new boat and although I did paddle some, I feel I cheated myself a touch of a long paddling experience.  :smt003 It is going to be interesting adjusting.... to the darkside :smt044

Gotta break in the new Yak...anyone going out to Whiskeytown or Shasta or ? Sunday or Monday?  :smt006

General Talk / New 2013 Hobie Revo... I just could not wait any longer
« on: February 09, 2013, 05:15:45 PM »
I just picked up my new Hobie 13' Revo from Headwaters Adventure Company here in Redding :smt003 . Joe and Terri have a great shop here in Northern CA. Jeff already had my turbo fins and sail rudder installed for me! Picked up the front tub while I was at it. I am going to try to use it for a FW fish ice chest...or not. Now I need get rigged up with trolley anchor system and fish finder. Thank you HAC! I cannot wait to get out tomorrow for a shake down fish/cruise. Love that new Malone trailer!

Now my youngest is eyeing my Hobie Quest, Mitch is eyeing my Revo (he already has a Hobie Quest and I have a Ocean Kayak Malibu 2XL Angler that may need to go to make room for my new yak (and to deposit WAF points). At least all of us will be ready for spring! :smt006

General Talk / Moonshine...no kiddin'
« on: February 01, 2013, 09:06:43 PM »
A friend of my stopped over tonight to share some moonshine he made out of pineapple and bananas. No kiddin. Mixed it with agave juice, fresh squeezed grapefruit, lime and had to cut it with a bit of water on the rocks. Holy cow... I am not a hard drink type of guy...but that was one great drink.  :smt007

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Fish Finder for 2013
« on: January 28, 2013, 08:03:54 PM »
Hope this is not an overkill type of question: What is a great fish finder for 2013? I know technology changes monthly; however, I am going to spring for a Hobie Revo 13 real soon and was wondering what would be the ulimate (within a decent price) fish finder. Thinking of mounting it forward and yet my eyes are not the best even with my glasses. :smt006

Whiskeytown Lake
1/19/13: I made a quick decision Friday night to go out on Whiskeytown for Saturday with my nephew Joel. He just moved up this way and is getting into fishing. We paddled around for a bit before finding a quick bite around 12:30 to 2:00 in a south side cove. I landed two and Joel got a few strikes but no fish. By three it was hard to find any bite. About 3:15 I landed a fattie by the swim beach. Three fish. Beautiful day! Felt great just to get out in water in the winter.
1/20/13: I could not resist to head back out on Sunday for a solo journey. This time I paddled all the way to the powerhouse and then back around Oak Bottoms. I did not get one bite.? Again a beautiful day and a long paddle. Once again... felt great to be out!

Check out the fattie. 17 1/2 RT ..almost looks like a chinook with the small hook jaw and color compared to the smaller skinnier 15 1/2 bright one. All were good in the jambalaya! :smt006

Late report... due to nasty fall on the jetty :smt013. Great to meet Clayman and beautiful day on the water. Some dungies and a lot of red rock crabs. Lesson learned: even the most flat wet rock can be slippery. Funny part of the story, if there is one, I was the one saying, "be careful those rocks are slippery!". Healing slowly.  :smt006

General Talk / Crayfish Recipes?
« on: September 16, 2012, 08:37:32 PM »
Anyone have great recipes for crayfish?

This last week I made a jambalaya with the crayfish, crappie and hot cajun sausage that brought on the heat and even my wife ate a full plate  :smt007...this weekend, I modified a crabcake recipe using crayfish and eight different peppers and added just a little corn flake meal with the panko... wow.. incredible! Now I am hooked! :smt007

Gotta get back out next weekend and see if any of the little bugs are out there. :smt006

Anyone else eat these little bugs?

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Lake Britton 09/08/12
« on: September 09, 2012, 10:47:00 AM »
Well, I did not make it to the coast so I thought I would take Sam, Mitch and his girl friend up to Lake Britton for an evening fish and crayfish. We had a late start so I thought to push it a little and ended up with a speeding ticket :smt012. How is that for a great reminder to slow down.

To make matters worse the wind was gusting and I shorted two ropes and lost two traps (we eventual retrieved them, but spent too much time with that).

Caught inly a few crappie, short sm and a few crawfish.

Still, no place I rather be than on the water. :smt006  Sorry no pics...
