They are clearing hydralia and re-paving the launch. Couldn't put in yesterday because they were working down there. It might be open this weekend, but have a backup launch
site in mind if you go down there. Wimpy's  ($5) or rough launch from the gates if it is closed.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Cosumnes warning

Be warned! Mosquitoes the size of Messerschmitts, and plenty of them! I think I lost a pint of blood! I was literally running up the sidewalk from the dock to the parking lot with my boat in tow.
DO NOT go down there with out plenty of spray and long clothes!

General Talk / Don't trash the Delta!!!
« on: April 02, 2016, 05:10:12 PM »
I WAS going to catch some striper today, but I got so freaking grossed out/pissed off by the amount of crap out there that I started picking up what I could.
 I hardly made a dent.
So much trash in the boat that I hade to sit on the bow to paddle in. It's no wonder that there are health warnings against eating the fish caught out of EVERY major waterway in California. So sad!
All these "SAVE THE DELTA, STOP THE TUNNELS" stickers, but what we really need is a "SAVE THE DELTA, PICK UP YOU GOD DAMNED TRASH!" movement!
The bathtub ring around my boat is one thing, reeling In a plastic bag with old diapers in it is just f'ing gross!

General Talk / Doodle's on deck!
« on: March 21, 2016, 12:11:53 PM »
I bought a life "jacket" for my pooch this weekend and tofterok Doodlebug for her first paddle. She loved it! She learned that she can drink from the scupper, or from the side of the boat. She also learned just how far NOT to lean out for drink. So, it ended up being a doggie rescue drill! She was great, I lifted her into the boat, and let her calm down up front with me for a bit, then off we went again! She likes to sit facing behind us. It's gonna be fun to have her out with me.

Dan called me today and said it was in! So stoked! I got to watch him cut open the box, and helped slip the cheesecloth sock of of it.
A choir of angels sang sweet, as the veil was slid down the sleek silver and white.
I'm gonna ride this bitch! Watch out fishes!

Kayak Fly Fishing / Fly rod ID
« on: February 26, 2016, 05:04:22 PM »
Hi guys!
My friend gave me this Diawa two piece rod and reel that was her late fathers. I'm guessing it's from the 70's due to the color scheme, and fiberglass construction. Unfortunately, the weight info on the sticker has come off. It's a little over 7 feet long.
I'm wondering what weight it is so I can put new backing and line on it.
Any info appreciated.
Thanks!

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Lowrance bulkhead plug
« on: February 20, 2016, 12:42:57 PM »
I'm upgrading kayaks and am looking at doing a clean FF setup. Poking around on the Web I found this from Tallon Systems. Says it works for elite 5, but also says won't work for two plug systems?? Is anyone here using this setup, or have any input on it?
**It's on sale for $69.99 on their site

General Talk / Baitless barbless non fly tips?
« on: January 21, 2016, 02:45:11 PM »
Went to an area today that is baitless, single barbless, no scent, and not being a fly guy, I was stumped. I had nothing to throw out but a cheese spoon that I pinched the barb on. What do you non fly guys use? I'd like to hit some other rivers with these restrictions in the future. Any help appreciated.

Craftsmen's Corner / QRAS with an anchor trolly
« on: January 16, 2016, 11:06:37 AM »
Hi guys! I may be doing some big game fishing, and want to have a quick release for my anchor while maintaining the adjustability of a trolly system. This is untested, so I thought I'd post it for your input and critiques. I've run through it in my yard and it seems like it will work, but there is a lot of experience here, so any constructive feed back is welcome!

I had a float that I salvaged from the delta, and ran a piece of shock cord through it with a ring on one side, and a clip on the other. The clip goes to my anchor reel (little anchor, so I added a chain carabinered to it), and the ring  goes to my release line.
The release line is clipped on one end to my trolly ring, though my float ring, and back through my trolly ring. From there I used two  large ram balls as a cleat for the tag end of the release line. Around the cleat twice and tag end in easy reach.
I just pull the tag end up, and it unwinds from the  ball cleat, slips through the trolly loop and the float loop, and I'm free to go on a sleigh ride!
Here is a picture of the whole set up. Close up shots to follow.
(I can only post one picture at a time)

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Paradise point
« on: October 13, 2015, 05:23:26 PM »
I was supposed to fish with ScottV at wimpy's  this morning, but he canceled. I decided to drive down to 8 mile and check out the tule bite. Put in the water at 7:15 and fished until 4:00.
The fish were very active (there are tons of them there), but the bite was kinda slow. I caught 5 bass. Two minis and three keepers. All the tule and the docks out there make for lots of fish. They were everywhere. It's very weedy, so I ran with a Texas rigged curly tail worm in watermelon. They killed a whole pack. Don't be put off by the smallness of the fish I caught. There are pigs out there. Had a few hits where the fish ripped the worm off the hook. I'll be fishing there again. Launch is $6 if you don't have a trailer.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Wimpy's marina
« on: October 02, 2015, 08:13:41 PM »
I didn't date this one thinking that I would keep reporting as time goes by. Feel free to add to it as well.

I started out around noon. Tide was high and just starting to go out.
I hit the rockpile for a few passes, but the wind was blowing pretty hard and I would only get one or two casts before I was on the bank. A few hits, but nothing major. I headed towards Guisty's and found a nice tree to post up under.
I ung out and had lunch. Nice in the shade with the water all lit up under me. Put a piece of worm on a jig and chilled for a while. Caught 3 nice bluegill, one little guy, and a decent smallmouth.
Headed back to the rocks and worked the weeds up to the log and back too many times to count. The wind sucked. I had a drift sock I made out of a leg from some old BDU's and it helped slow the roll a bit, but 20 minutes of paddling would only get me 5 minutes of fishing before I was back where I started. Hooked up two more smallies in the 14" range on a spook at the north end of the rocks.
The sun was getting low so I headed back to the docks. Threw the spook a bunch out front and had a few good hits of a big largie, but couldn't get him. There is a monster lurking under the dock by the launch. Lots of action over by the pump too.

Please post your wimpy's adventures here too. It's my "home base" so I want to hear any news.

Thanks!
Happy fishing!
