General Fishing Tips / Re: Storing crab on kayak?
« on: March 27, 2018, 12:02:46 AM »
I have 2 stacked milk crates in the back. Crabs in the bottom crate (lined with burlap), gear in the top crate. I've found that the crabs stay alive without any issue for a whole day without water as long as they are kept out of wind and sunlight.

How do people generally approach using the bathroom on the kayak? Do you bring a container, go in the ocean, or head back to land?

I've been using the WINDY app. Gives wind, tides, swell, and a bunch of other things. Lots of available locations

General Talk / Re: 3D printing

This bucket handle is one of the more useful things I've 3d printed. Snaps on to 5 gallon buckets and makes them way easier to hold : https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2177302

I've also used this 3d printed crab gauge -- notches for both california size limits. https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:225287

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Cell Phone Case
« on: March 21, 2018, 12:27:52 AM »
I have a similar case as well, I use my phone for pictures and gps. The camera works surprisingly well, as long as the back of the pouch is dry the photos turn out close to normal. The only complaint I have is that it is difficult to press  buttons on the side of the phone, which is where my power button happens to be.

Hobie Kayaks / Re: For those who have the Hobie MD 180 drive...

I use the reverse when crabbing -- if I happen to pass slightly out of reach of my buoy I can just reverse until I can grab it.

Introductions / Hi everyone
« on: March 19, 2018, 05:42:06 PM »
Thanks for adding me to the forum! I went on my first kayak trip last weekend to Half moon bay. Dropped some traps in the harbor and got 6 rock crab. Boat is a Hobie i12s. I'm interested in learning more and expanding the range of things I can catch and places I can go on the kayak.

Cheers
