Do you have to get a lake county mussel sticker for the yak?

As long as you are not powered in your kayak you do not need the mussel sticker.

Would love to make it. Have reservations for the 11th weekend in Bullards bar.

I’ve been using a home made descender for a few years. It’s a fish grip with a weight and it’s on a hand line reel with some 550 cord. Oregon DFG actually has the set up on their website. I’ll probably buy a seaqualizer to put on a rod though. The hand line gets old after awhile.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Wetsuit vs. dry suit - which one?
« on: February 12, 2024, 07:14:49 AM »
At times I bring fish onto my lap.  Does this ruin a dry suit?
I winter fish in Lake Tahoe and Pyramid Lake (NV) and fish SF Bay.  I want to stay warm and although I have never had to swim, I want to survive a cold water dunking or rough water washing/spray/rain/snow exposure.

Kayak fishing dry suits have an extra layer layer for bringing fish into your lap. From kokotat “It features strategically placed 330D Hydrus Tough reinforcements on lap, seat, knees and elbows, to withstand the demands of kayak fishing.” I’ve never had an issue with fish in my lap.

For really cold water fishing (I fish Tahoe in the winter as well) a dry suit with warm layers under is the way to go.

AOTY / AOTY 2024 Prize

As graciously modeled by 2023 winner Poopsmith here https://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=101563.15 there is a championship belt for the 2024 winner. It is currently sitting in a garage cabinet patiently waiting to see who gets to take it home.

Its way more challenging to take a picture of a reflective object than you would think BTW.

Dark day #6 is where I'll be :smt007 :smt006

So we (being kayak fishing people) have 6-10 I think. Did anyone get 5?

I’m glad you like it! I thought putting a crappie in it was funny since you didn’t have one in your top 10 fish  :smt003

We had so much fun last year! I’m really looking forward to it again. I’ve already reserved a campsite for the weekend.

There was a little beach at the bottom of the campground hill (lake level depending) that we all hauled out on and had a campfire on. Fishing was really good and fun was had by all. I doubt this year will be any different!

Introductions / Re: Hello

Welcome!

The outback is a great platform. Me and the significant other both have them.

In healdsburg you can fly fish the Russian river for steelhead right now (maybe not right now cause it’s blown out), Shad in a few months, and smallmouth bass in the summer/fall. Lake Sonoma is a fun fishery for bass both large and smallmouth, as well as trout and catfish. Same for lake Mendocino. Clearlake is close and if you can’t catch a bass there I don’t know what to tell you  :smt044   Berryessa is an awesome multi species lake as well. Lots of smaller ponds like riverfront park, spring lake, howarth park, nakasawa park and annadel park hold bass and sunfish. Plus we have salt too! Sf bay, Tomales bay, bodega bay, the whole friggen coast!

At any rate read thru some posts, ask some questions, and if you see a hookup post join on in!

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Clear Lake 1/27 RPT
« on: January 27, 2024, 08:35:42 PM »
Sam and I hit clear Lake for a little winter fishing on Saturday 1/27. The weather was really nice. Partly cloudy, light wind, and a tiny sprinkle of rain.

We fished around rattlesnake. Water temp was 51 with a green tinge and maybe 2 feet of visibility.

The fishing was pretty decent especially with the amount of pressure in the area we fished. We caught a couple of bass and a couple of crappie. The crappie were roaming open water and the bass were tight on rocky structure.

Biggest bass that I got was 20.5 inches/7.5lbs. Sams biggest was 17.5 inches. Biggest crappie was 14 inches.

Lots of water in the lake. It’s only going to get better as the days start getting longer!
