General Talk / Re: Rollins Lake (Colfax)...Anyone been???
« on: May 26, 2010, 05:30:02 PM »
Spent 3 days camping there last year with some friends.....shore fished for about 3 hours the whole weekend and caught one bluegill.  Lots of boat traffic but the pleasure boaters keep bankers hours so any time zones before or after were pretty slow.

Thanks for the info, that makes me think there is going to be TONS of boaters out there.  Helpful, thanks!

http://www.scottsflatlake.net/  or Collins but it might fill up on the weekend http://www.collinslake.com/

Thanks!  I will most likely try one of these places over Rollins...It would be great to find a camping spot that close to go to all summer long.  I probably wont find any where that isn't crowded Memorial Day weekend, but I am going to go out there and see what I can do either way.  Thanks again!!!f

I anyone else has any suggestions they are more than welcome...trying to plan this out soon!

Narrow lake with a lot of speed boats. Fishing can be pretty good up near  the inlet but watch out for changes in flows from releases.

Thanks for the info!!! Know anywhere near there that has less boats and better fishing possibly?

Just wondering if anyone has been to Rollins Lake and has any thoughts about if I should go there this weekend to do some yaking/fly fishing...I have never been so I have no clue about the place, where to go and how crowded it might be for Memorial Day.  I appreciate any input...thanks in advance!!!  :fish

Also Im coming out of Folsom, if anyone has any ideas for a better place around the same distance out that would be good to check out let me know...

Would you consider $150 for these? I could bring cash this afternoon.  I just bought a new (used) yak so that is all I would be able to afford right now...

who did you buy it through?

Mike

Adventure Sports (Kayak City) but it was a Lake Natoma rental.  A bit scuffed and faded but other than that in good shape and a good deal.

I am proud to announce that I have welcomed a new member to the family!  I bought a used (former rental) Emotion Grandslam with the angler package (14' 5")...I took it out for a spin and loved it!  Thanks guys for steering me in the direction of the larger yak, would be hard to deal with less space, and the thing tracks and paddles beautifully.  I did purchase the truck bed extender from Harbor Freight and it works great!

I took my first trip out on Folsom Lake last Saturday, it was crazy windy, but a great day.  I was thankfully I had invested in an anchor before I was out there wishing that I had.  I am looking forward to taking a lot of trips this summer.  I am also looking forward to getting together with some of you all and hooking some fish.  I am forewarning everyone I am a total noob to yaking and fishing, but I am learning quick.

Thanks again for everyone's input...see you all out there on the water soon!!!

Thanks beenfishing!  Good advice, I will be getting one of those, that's a great deal.  Good ol' harbor freight.

lol@welcome to the madness Tad, you arent joking.  Well I want to get a second yak that is a little more geared towards fishing, but almost more importantly I want to be able go with someone else.  So I figured if I had a second yak I am much more likely to have that happen.

Thanks for the response Z!!!

Hey i live in orangevale, I have a perception search 15 (not ready to let it go) but you are more than welcome to take it out for the day too see if you like the longer yak.

Let me know,
Mike

Thank you very much!!!!  I may have to take you up on the offer.  After getting everyone's feedback and doing some research I am thinking of getting a 12-15' yak.  The main thing I have to figure out is how to transport a longer boat, the bed of my truck is only 6'.  I might weld up a extension for my trailer hitch and put it on that and the roof.  Any suggestions on how to get the longer yaks to and from the water?

Oh and as a side note I built this thing last weekend for my little 10' cheap sit in.  Worked good on the test run, now just got to slap some paint on it.  Shouldn't have any problems using it for a longer boat...

Thanks again for the offer Mike! I'll let you know if I wanna try out the longer one before I buy my own.

K.C.

Thanks for the response!!! I have been looking on Craigslist and I even posted a similar wanted ad there as well.  I have a 10' sit in right now and that size seems to be manageable, should I be going larger for my fishing yak?  I will mainly be doing lake and river (I'm so new to this I am not even thinking about ocean quite yet, plus there are so many places around me in Folsom).  Any advice/guidance for a newbie is much appreciated!!!!
