General Talk / Re: What's your favorite restaurant in the South Bay?
« on: January 13, 2025, 08:33:58 PM »
New spot for me in Vietnam Town.  I normally eat at Pho Ha Noi but the place is always super busy.  Found….Pho This Way…right up the plaza and it’s been my go to spot.

The Pho Beef Rib is  :smt007

As a son of a pho restaurant owner for 30+ years, I really like Pho Dang. I have nothing against Pho Hai Noi but I’m just not a fan of their different broths at different locations. I don’t add any sauce to my broth since I like know what is in it or not. Give it a try next time you’re around that area.

I’m thankful for this site and the people that make it happen. I only started kayak fishing 2 years ago and this site really helped me become a more competent fisherman. Hope I will be able to contribute to the community.

General Talk / Re: The perfect kayak fishing rod?

And the rest of you need to size down, go longer, slow your action, and flip your rod over.  Don't judge, just try it.

-Allen

I just started using a spinner in the salt for RF/lings this year and did well with it. Running 20lb braid and leader. I actually want to go down in rod size with that set up. It’s rated 12-25 and fishes like a 20 and I want to fish more like a 15.

But yeah, light spinners in the salt are a blast. And if you get snagged I find it easier to grab the spool and break off (at 20lb) than a baitcaster and you don’t have to mess with your drag settings.

I couldn’t agree more. I started using a light jigging rod matched with an old Penn Slammer 2500. It’s a blast! You feel all the fight of the fish and really learn to work your gear.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Top Loading Kayak on Car
« on: December 04, 2024, 04:14:44 PM »
I used the Rhino side loader with my outback and didn’t like it.
Maybe I didn’t learn how to use it.
I ended up using a roller assist loader that apparently isn’t available on Amazon anymore.. but here’s the pics
Btw - I since applied a kiel protector that prevents the kiel from sliding as smoothly as bare plastic. Something to consider.
Good luck!
I second this. I go alone so this is a great way for me to rest it on top while I position myself in the rear to push my kayak onto my roof rack. It can be done on the side as well. Just depends on how I am parked. Good luck.

Recipes / Re: Pondy Taste
« on: November 21, 2024, 09:36:13 PM »
Del valle stripers are more sweeter than delta stripers. I stay in the range of 19-24in because I find those are the best tasting. 30in plus tends to be more fishy. I’ve been itching for the trout plants to bring out the stripers boils. Will have to wait for this rain to pass and the water to clear before trying for them.

General Talk / Re: EBRPD Trout Plants
« on: November 08, 2024, 06:30:28 PM »
Good advice on prepping your gears to pass inspection. Shadow Cliffs, Quarry, and Chabot are a lot less strict on inspection. Del Valle is the strictest of all Eastbay parks. The “gate keeper” there takes pride in failing kayakers. Good luck. I might take the kayak out this Sunday to go after the planted trouts either at Shadow Cliffs or Chabot. I am leaning towards Chabot since the views are amazing from a kayak. Hope to run into some NCKA guys out there this Winter season.
