General Talk / Re: Happy Fourth of July halibut

Awesome! Thanks for sharing

I have a side scan transducer with my Hummingbird fish finder. It also has a downscan and standard sonar. Iím also one of those unhappy BerleyPro customers.
I donít know what your setup or kayak is like, but I suggest that you have the transducer under the kayak without any obstructions. Even sand collecting around the transducer can impact accuracy.
I have a Revo 16 and I ended up engineering a setup like that. Itís not simple to build, but it works great. I never had to remove it and it never moved. My main concern was damage to the exposed transducer, but itís build like a tank. No issues at all.
In a nutshell, I cut out an opening exactly the outline of the transducer, and then used some hardware to connect it to the Hobie transducer plate. The final and most critical part was to fabricate a custom piece of closed cell foam that filled in the remaining kayakís transducer cavity. The foam prevents the transducer from getting pushed in.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you need more details

I feel really stupid, which is not that unusual, to be honest...

takes a big man to say that

Then my wife must be the biggest man that I know...
It reminds me, one of the secretaries at my work back when I was 20 called for help. The printer wonít print. Apparently it was off.

Iím so lucky I got one of the last Revo 16.
Nobody is selling them, unless they are sadistic.

Thanks for the report. Iíve been reminiscing over BO.
Have you seen any bait?

Maybe you forgot the paddle, but you seem to be conscious and aware and this is much more important on the water.
Next time.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Lip gripper recommendation

I use the plastic one. Never had a problem, even with big Lings (but I bonk them before the grip). I would say that moving it to the open position in one hand can sometimes be challenging, and thatís how I lost a Hali. But overall great, lightweight, no maintenance, and will keep using it.

I adjusted mine too. But for ceiling length; not for height. I wonder why you donít have clearance. My Revo 16 can be lifted to the point of touching the ceiling.. but we have 9ft tall walls so maybe thatís why?

What fisherman would not be thrilled to own a lure vibrator?

And I thought thereís a limit to how mad we can go with our fishing related endeavors

General Fishing Tips / Re: mm thickness for farmer john style wetsuit
« on: April 16, 2024, 03:44:41 PM »
I was looking for a thicker than 3mm neoprene farmers John myself. Couldnít find any at the time. Decided to get a neoprene top (also from NRS) which I like very much since I can take it off if Iím too hot.
But feet were still cold. Especially when wading for too long waiting for the sets. I ended up getting dry pants to go over the wetsuit. It works very well. The only thing I havenít tested is how much water the pants would get if Iím immersed (since the pants arenít combined with a dry jacket). But so far this hasnít been an issue. Plus, I usually take off the dry pants after launching.
