Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Waterproof camera?
« on: September 08, 2007, 11:25:18 PM »
I have a Pentax Optio W30 and an Olympus 720SW.  They are both good for kayaking, but I give the edge to the Olympus because of the lens cover and its shock rating.

General Talk / Re: Posion Oak is killing me- Help!!!
« on: May 23, 2007, 11:59:52 PM »
I've had Poison Oak dozens of times and stopping the itching is very easy.  You just apply hot then cold which shocks the histamines and stops the itching for hours.  Take a damp paper towel and heat it in the microwave (make it hot but not enough to damage skin) then hold it on to the affected area for about 10 seconds, remove and quickly apply cold (such as a piece of ice or use some ice water) for about 10 seconds.  This works on insect bites also.  For your hands, you can just use the hot water from a faucet.  Hold your hand under the hot water until it becomes uncomfortable then pull it out and pour some ice water on it.  This really works so try it!

Kevin,
I got mine from Wind Toys in Santa Rosa, which is a bit far for you, but you can order them online.  Kayak Fishing Stuff (KFS) has them for $15 each.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Rockfish regs...
« on: May 14, 2007, 04:57:17 PM »
Yes, 20 finfish total with no more than 10 of any one species, and of course all the individual sublimits such as 1 Cab, 2 Lings, 2 Salmon, etc..  That's a lot of fish and probably more than a person needs in a day, but then how many people catch 20 finfish in a day?

6
Good try!  A Coastsider reported a 47 incher (people are guessing around 40 lbs.) caught there so you were in the right spot.  Don't you just hate this damn wind?

Eric,
Nice pics as usual and that Ling isn't too bad.  Nice self portrait, "the contented fisherman" happy to be on the water again!  I have to scratch next weekend for fishing, a family obligation came up.  I have the week of June 4th off, any chance you could do some mid week fishing?

Well, you were dying to get out there and you made it, just too bad the conditions weren't better.  Good catch for such a nasty day.

9
WTG, nice fish, nasty conditions, well earned.  Where is this Rocky Point?

I don’t know if this helps without a map/chart, but this is from the regs.

Point Reyes Headlands State Marine Conservation Area.  This area is bounded by the mean high tide line, a distance of 1000 feet offshore and the following points:

37º 59.73’ N. lat.  123º  01.46’ W. long.;
37º 59.73’ N. lat.  123º  01.68’ W. long.;
37º 59.40’ N. lat.  122º  57.60’ W. long.; and
37º 59.40’ N. lat.  122º  57.81’ W. long.;

Sin Coast,
That is a good days fishing, but you are still 3 "finfish" short of a day's limit.  You can always add a Pacific Halibut, Stripers, White Seabass, or surfperch to your bag.

Eric,
I just checked iwindsurf.com and it predicts 24-31 knot winds at the Eel River buoy for Saturday.  Think I'll stay home this weekend, but I'm keeping next weekend open for a possible trip north.

Abking,

I'm was all set to head up Friday, but I guess you're now saying it might be better to postpone my drive until the forecast is a little bit better.

"Well done" is right!  Beautiful stringers and I'm another one on the jealous list.
