If you like what you see in the video, I can provide links to threads describing how I put it all together.

yes please :) nice setup

Heres the general idea using 1/4-20 stainless machine screw.  The existing hole in the base barely nedds to be drilled out for tapping.  When I troll heavy salmon setups I use my flush mounts, but for everything else including river salmon, rams have been no problem.

I see what you did however I'm using the ram ball on a yakattack rail. It would be nice if the t-bolt goes all the way to the top of the ball so I can put a locking nut on it or a wing nut to clamp down.

General Talk / Re: Hobie carrying handle upgrade
« on: January 20, 2016, 12:04:01 PM »
Yes there is one on each side but when carrying the boat I find myself needing both hands due to the weight & length.
Currently there's nothing else to get a really good grip on besides the existing handle. Once I get the H-Rail's installed I'll have a second handle on each side. Plan on mounting these behind the seat & will post pics once I get them on next week.

looking forward to your h-rail install :)

1.5" ram balls, never had a problem on either of my Hobies.  However, I have tapped them 2" deep and run a 10-32 stainless machine screw up the center of the ball.  The castings have been known to fracture under the rubber coating, just anal about rod loss.

can you take a picture of how you modified the ram ball. My broke over the weekend when I was out trolling. I might have overtighten it since I was using more weight on the DR so it shifted. When I went to tighten it, it just spun and spun. :( I believe ram mount will warranty it however. If not then hoping to modified it stronger :)

caution for those to not overtighten theirs, haha.

ps:

glad I found out how weak these are before losing my rig :(

Hobie Kayaks / Re: Kayak Cart?

that will be my next cart. After experiencing with the scupper cart, its just too much hassle. Its not bad transporting it without any gear but with gear, its a pain!!

might be selling the hd hobie cart once I can secure the wheelzee cart. I already used my 20 percent :(

looking for an opinion on which kokatat pants to get.

1. kokatat gore-tex tempest pant

or

2. kokatat hydrus 3L tempest

is it worth getting the gore-tex? or is the hydrus 3l just as good?

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Smart Phone Fishfinders?
« on: November 02, 2015, 03:35:32 PM »
I picked up one last November since I mainly fish on shore. Its a great portable tool. I got the Deeper Fish Finder which has dual beam (90 khz and 290 khz).

Since I picked up a lowrance elite 5 a few weeks ago, I tested it out last weekend. Both unit display the same depth and temperature. Marking of fish was pretty accurate as well. The unit would run out of juice before the phone.

I do carry ways to charge both unit while on the water so it isn't an issue.

There are a few other portable unit that look promising. Fish Hunter has one which looks really good!!

I'm about to send my rebate out for the free Lake Insight Pro or Nautic Insight Pro map chip. Can you shed some light on which one to get?

I mainly fish Lake around Fresno. Might venture out to the ocean once I get comfortable or go with someone experienced. Thanks.

great thanks. So either the 1 inch or 1.5 inch would work with that mount.

did you guys go with 1 inch or 1.5 inch ram mount in the sail location? I'm looking at picking up a lowrance elite 5. Does the lowrance come with a mount to clip into the ram or do I purchase that seperately?

Thanks for any input :)

Hobie Kayaks / Re: Thoughts on this kayak storage method?
« on: September 28, 2015, 09:28:35 PM »
Since I try to take the kayak out every weekend, it doesn't hang for a long extended time. Over the winter, it just depends on weather but winter time its cold in the garage anyways so heat isn't a factor.

thanks mienboy, it does make sense that the top haul is stronger. Might have to think of a way to create a cradle and use the pulley system to pull it up.

well I live in a hot climate since Fresno isn't exactly cold.

From hobie manual, "storing your boat upside down on crossbars or hanging from wide strapping are two other ways to keep the boat stored"

I guess if I flipped it upside down, it would be okay?

just curious why upside down? stronger?
