Very different numbers if you include other "groundfish" species (like Lingcod), might be the reason for the discrepancy.

I had posted annual commercial takes for the US in another thread and it was very flat for the last 20 years.  But the NOAA also allows you to query their databases and you can pull up by state / species.  So I queried California, last 15 years, all species of rockfish.  The results were eye opening.   Commercial rockfish take is climbing very rapidly.  Columns are Pounds, Tons, $.

I'm getting different numbers when I run the query, using this page, https://www.fisheries.noaa.gov/foss/f?p=215:200

Same here. Attached is the table that I see. Harvest was much higher until 2003 and then dropped dramatically and has stayed pretty steady since. Note that I did not include all years for clarity. This is a great site by the way. Thanks sandwg for posting it.

Thanks for the heads up! I"ll message BB. I may have another group coming with me, so I would need to make sure there is room.

BigDistance1, you might want to jump on this. You could cancel your School House reservation and and join in the Fuckery with us at the Dark side!

General Fishing Tips / Re: Kayak loading on tailgate spoiler

Yeah, that would work! Need to be careful about weight restrictions, but if you're just using it to load the kayak, it should be fine (my hitch is rated for 200 lbs TW). Still a bit out of my price range, but if one fell in my lap I might try it out.

All the T-loader bars I have seen have been made for a 2 inch hitch. I have not found one made for a 1 inch hitch. Not a big deal for me, since the PVC I made works pretty well, but I was very curious about where you found one for a 1 inch hitch. A T-loader bar I could leave attached to the car, which would make loading and unloading the kayak slightly faster and would be a slightly lower point to lift too, but not sure it is worth the price tag (they seem to be in the $200 range). Mostly I was thinking about my wife, who can load the kayak, but it is very difficult for her.

Can you use one of 1-1/4 inches to 2 inches Hitch Adaptors instead to use 2" T-Loader?

Sorry, my t-rack was made by a friend. Simple one inch stock found at any metal yard. Unfortunately does not have adjustable height. Was a great deal because my buddy had some stock laying around as well as cutter and welder. It cost me a six pack of beer.

I thought I did a search and there were some one inch available? The one inch hitch is great. The two inch hitch was just over kill for my CRV . I can easily pull my 12 foot aluminum as well my kayak trailer.

Would love to see your t-rack that fits a 1 inch hitch, do you recall which brand or where you got it? I installed a hitch on my Honda fit, and this might work for me.

Ok, hopefully I can detail this correctly.

On my crv with spoiler and rear antenna. I installed crossbars and 1 inch trailer hitch for t rack.

I lay my kayak on the ground touching the ground side of my crv, with about one foot of the kayak forward of the t-rack.
I then attach a rope to the rear handle of the kayak and the other end of the rope to the lowest part of the t-rack.

Lift the forward part of the kayak . With the rope attached, the kayak will not slide back, allowing you to lift the front end and place on t-rack.

You do have to maintain control of the kayak as you move to the rear of the kayak so it does not slide off. Then lift the rear end up and slide on.

Eventually I will add a saddle on the t-rack so I don't have to worry about it sliding while lifting.

This works great for me. :smt001

my wife made a PVC "L" that is about 2 feet wide and sits on our Honda Fit tailgate (which is almost exactly like a mini Odessey). We added pool noodles as padding. we use the loading straps to attach it (temporary) to the roof rack and then use it as a load assister. I don't have a picture, but I found a similar one on the internet. Just imagine the long part of the L on the top of the car and the small part of the L on the rear window, then put the kayak on the corner of the L

We have something very similar to this in our backyard, I love it SO MUCH! Yours looks much nicer than the one we have, if I didn't have one already working I would be very interested.

Looks like Dark Day is already full, but Schoolhouse has lots of availability as of right now. Still checking with the wife to see if we are available that weekend :)

If you want some of my starter I can send you some. It will take a few weeks for me to prepare it. I dry it out and send it in an envelope in the mail.

11
Worth it to drive there (from Sacramento) after work today? Or should I try tomorrow on the outgoing tide?

CA Regulations / Re: Frog Hibernation

Haha the truth is stranger than fiction, I believe the technical term is "cloacal respiration"

But unlike a hibernating turtle, frogs would suffocate without access to oxygen-rich water.

So, a hibernating turtle will not suffocate without access to oxygen-rich water? What does that mean? Maybe I need to consult ChatGPT to parse this sentence...

Thanks for the report! How is launching from Markley? I have never tried it (even though it is probably my closest launch).

I only use the 'discard'. We use it to make sourdough waffles almost every weekend. I left the recipe in the envelope for you (I think). If you don't have a waffle iron they make great sourdough pancakes too.

Edit: should have finished reading the replies, yes Gopher has the right idea.

Thanks BD1 for the dried sourdough starter.   I was able to revise it after a few days (see attached picture).  Tried to make my first sourdough bread after watching many YouTube videos but my doug doesn't double in size even after 2 days at room temperature.   Any tips/suggestions are appreciated.

A few days?  You may need a few weeks for that starter to stabilize.  Just keep feeding on a regular schedule.  It will work it self out.

Thanks Allen for the info.  Just fed my starter.   It must be very hungry by now  :smt003

Also try to avoid a common beginner mistake of skipping feedings to make your starter/breads “more sour.” Results will be better if you remove some each day and refresh with fresh flour. Feeding 2 or more times a day can really ramp up the speed at which your starter and breads rise.

Thanks for the info.  Can we use the "discard"  to bake something else?

Can't make it tomorrow, but excited to hear your report!
