General Fishing Tips / Re: Using descending device for RF in 50 fathom depth« on: April 10, 2025, 12:21:11 PM »Honestly, they shouldn't even allow release (except for prohibited species) for the deep water rockfish fishery. Keep every one you catch, regardless of size and species, until your limit is reached. +1 3

my son and I fished a party boat a few years ago, they would put the fish in an upside down milkcrate that was waited, and send them to the depths. Not sure how effective it was at keeping them alive.

Great day on the water, ok day fishing
![]() Got to the Dark Day ramp just after sunrise - packed full of kayakers (FnS I think), worked the Dark Day Bay for a bit, but it was so crowded, you could walk shore to short just stepping on kayaks. Turned off my radio (too much chatter) and worked the shore down to Willow Creek. I've literally never seen so many kayaks at Bullards, like 5x normal and 3x the max I'd seen before. I was marking schools in the bay, but only getting fly by's, when I left the bay, picked up a couple more schools - but didn't seem to want to play. I was working 2 and 3 ounce waits, anywhere from 45' to 125' of line. Got down to willow creek, surprisingly quiet, talked with another kayaker - very slow for him as well, I think we both regretted working our way down there. I worked the opposite shore on the way back, picked up a 10" koke just before tractor cove, went in to work the cove, I saw the schools, but could not get them to play. I've had more luck using my downrigger, but downriggers can also be a PITA in a kayak, so trying to improve my sliding weight skills. After 8+ miles and6+ hours, pulled out and headed home. After enjoying a nice beer with Kevin in the lot (thanks Kevin!). Mrs. BBT and I enjoyed the koke appetizer before our dinner. So darn good, I'm convinced that Bullards kokes are the best tasting, it may be the size? the water? I don't know, but they are soooo goooood. Hoping to get out there again next weekend! 6

got my replacement pole at Walmart today $21, not bad. Rigged it up, should be ready. Bought some frozen corn so I can make my proper brine. Plan to leave whenever I wake up, be on the water not long after sunrise. I charged my radio, so I'll actually be on Ch69 this time!

Only 6 weeks to the third annual - I can not wait! will be a great time.
I was out on the lake last weekend (Kevin, Ken, Others were there as well), the weather was amazing, cool in the morning, warm in the afternoon. Friday night we'll plan a big fire/happy hour Saturday Morning will be the Fishing tournament (Kevin's in charge or the pot, but something like biggest fish, biggest stringer etc. - photo based, so you can catch and release or catch and eat - your choice) all regs apply of course. Saturday night will be the Pot Luck (always amazing) - go ahead and respond here - or PM me if there is something in particular you'd like to bring, I'll get a list going and modify it in the lead post. I will probably do my grilled veggies again - seemed popular last year, though the buffalo wings at the inaugural were pretty good too. also, anyone who'd like to stay in 4T with us, let me know, Plenty of room for tents! I think last year we had two trailers (ours and Als) and Kevin and crew had a number of tents out there. The gates were still locked last weekend, so I was not able to check on the condition of the campground. See ya, Brian. 10
Craftsmen's Corner / Re: Rear seat storage« on: March 17, 2025, 07:52:42 AM »
very nice John!
I've been thinking about something similar for ours, though needs to be easy in/out as we sometimes need our back seat for people. Thanks, Brian. 11
Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Kayak roof basket« on: March 10, 2025, 07:21:38 AM »
very cool, that's how I load my yaks, though I first need to bungie a chonk of 2" schedule 40 PVC between the front and rear rack. I've been noodling on a design from wood that would accomplish the same, but keep the load on the racks and not on the wood.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Lifetime Fishing License at age 62?« on: February 22, 2025, 06:25:05 AM »
my wife bought me the lifetime hunting/fishing license years ago (30ish?), I've wandered back and forth from the sports, but feel it has probably paid for itself. I do add on the second rod, and a few others some years
enjoy it. 15
Craftsmen's Corner / Re: Fish Cleaning Table« on: February 18, 2025, 05:14:58 AM »
wow, looks nice!
Galvanized and Stainless steel can cause corrosion at the interface - so you might look for a way to keep them isolated somehow, possibly a plastic or wood piece between them, or plumbers tape if the legs are threaded in. otherwise, just make sure you get all the saltwater cleaned off after use - and keep the table clean and dry between uses. https://galvanizeit.org/knowledgebase/article/stainless-steel-in-contact-with-galvanized-steel see ya, Brian. |
